I had an energy drink before lifting for the first time, it gave me about 5 times the pump i used to get from NOxplode. Any opinions about energy drinks in general? what are the more inexpensive better tasting brands?

most energy drinks will run you about 2$. The best ones I have had are amp and bawls.

Rockstars are like 2 redbulls in 1 can. I think they taste good, little funky though (I'd say that about most energy drinks btw). There's gonna be two general classes of energy drinks - general population, and preworkout. Rockstar's the strongest I've used (I haven't used any of the ones others have mentioned) of the 'general consumer' energy drinks, and either redline or adrenalyn stack are my favorite 'preworkout' oriented energy drinks.

Energy drinks don't do anything for me. I've tried a bunch, and I wasted my money. Redline, which I was told "is like 10 red bulls," didn't even do anything for me. I find they only have a noticeable effect if I'm really tired, then they make me feel normal (not tired, not energetic). If I feel normal and take it, nothing happens.

Monster energy drink (the original green can) is by far my favorite. Otherwise I like Mountain Dew Amp, SoBe adrenaline rush, and the Jones energy drink.

Do not try the Tab energy drink...it is awful!!!

They're all a giant waste of money, for me atleast, but if I had to drink one, I'd say the Rockstar Juiced taste the best out of what I've tried.

They're typically a waste of money for me, but I loved them, regardless of price, on days when I was going for personal records.

Who cares if it's a waste of money? Sugar Free No Fear tastes aweesssome.

If money's an issue, Sam's Club sells Red Bull and Monster in bulk for a good price.

Otherwise, I always look for sales at our grocery store. They seem to go on sale frequently.

I never feel any sort of energy from drinking these.

I'd much rather spend practically nothing and order caffeine powder online and mix it into my gatorade than buy premade drinks every time I lifted.

Everybody has those few things that they don't mind spending a little extra on. I just don't see why people make a big deal out of it when somebody wants to buy an energy drink. Yes, there are cheaper ways to get caffeine. So what? If people were really that concerned with saving wads of money, everybody would be driving hybrid cars or walking everywhere. Heck, I buy em for the taste. I actually enjoy the way Sugar Free No Fear tastes, and the 150mg or so of caffeine is an added bonus.

Sorry I wasn't trying to make a 'big deal' out of it, just stating my opinion. My opinion on the matter of money in general is to always live a good deal below your means, and that typically negates the idea of buying a $2 drink before every workout (well, unless you're crazy rich lol). Just my two cents, I know everyone's got their own spending habits.

Hahaha touche. Yea, spending $2/day on a drink isn't a great way to save your money, but I figure most people could come up with that in spare change they accumulate throughout the day. I don't have any other habits either, so I'm not buying cigarettes or alcohol or anything else. My spending habits usually come down to gf, paintball and lifting. Don't spend much outside of those, so I don't really worry about the No Fear.

I used to be a big fun of Elements (made by Snapple) but they don't sell it near me anymore. They tasted awesome and came in a really nice metal container. Now I rarely drink any energy drinks except the occasional Sobe every once in a while, and then only usually because of the taste more than anything else.

I get my monster from SAMS, basically paying 1 buck a can, can't beat it.

as far as taste goes, I prefer redbull. (especially with vodka :) ) I don't really feel any effect at all unless I am very tired. If I'm not literally falling asleep, they do nothing for me but taste good and are fun to sip on.

Oh dear God. Sugar Free Red Bull is the most disgusting thing I've ever drank in my life. I can only imagine that it tastes like piss.

it's amazing how gross sugar free redbull is. I'm the kind of person who can't really tell the difference between diet/regular soda, but with redbull/rockstars, if there's no sugar, there's no drinky.

you're better off just buying caffeine and taurine pills. much cheaper.

I agree. SF No Fear is about the only sugar free drink I can stand, as far as energy drinks.

if you've got sources, please post. I can't remember the price off the top of my head, but my little jar of pure caffeine annhydrous was insanely cheap, I'm really not sure how much cheaper it could get than that. Even if it was, we're talking miniscule amounts here, to the point of irrelevancy.

huh? I was saying buying caffeine and taurine would be cheaper than buying energy drinks.

I deleted it; there were two energy drink / product threads I was bouncing between and for some reason thought that your post was directed at my suggestion of cheap caffeine annhydrous powder. My bad!

(updated 8/25: just a note on pure caffeine powder - always mix it with juice or something. Yesterday I was in a rush so I just scooped my caffeine, dumped on tongue, held pressed against roof of mouth til I could open the fridge for some gatorade to wash it down. Couldn't get the taste out of my mouth all day, and today the roof of my mouth feels like it was burned/corroded. Just figured I'd add that for info's sake :) )

I doubt many of you have had one but they had Cocaine out on the market. Its the strongest energy drink known , which might be why they took it off the market due to it being so dangerous. Feel free to look it up.

lol get a clue. I don't mean to come off like a dick, but that was not the strongest energy drink by a long stretch. Also, they did not remove it because it was dangerous. Furthermore, it's almost as if you're implying there were coca alkaloids in that drink - there were not.

(oh, and in the interest of information, there's a new version already back out, I wanna say it's a powder now that you make an energy drink with. But the bottom line is that it's just marketing, there's no cocaine in any of the energy drinks lol.)

Honestly speaking I have been lifting weights for more than 3 years now and I have never felt the urge to take any form of energy drinks to aid me in my purpose. Yeah I was always insisted by my friends and colleagues in the gym and have tasted some but they were not because I wanted to get extra stamina while lifting but I just wanted to taste them. I never believe in taking aids from such drinks or supplements and rely only on self motivation. Different people different views as you may say and thats the way it is.

energy drinks don't only provide motivation, they can actually make you stronger. I'm not gonna bother to find any info to prove that, but search around on caffeine and you'll see that it will enhance performance.
