Thinking of buying a set sometime. I found one at that Sears sells, but are they true bumper plates? Says they are, but cannot be sure. It is made by weider and very cheap compared to other olympic sets. Otherwise i could save for a much longer time and buy a real training set for around a thousand dollars but that seems over the top. Any one have any experience with the sears set or know of any cheap bumper sets Let me know if you do,thanks.

no those aren't "real" olympic bumpers they are just metal bumpers encased in rubber. Here is a good site to order real bumpers from for much cheaper than other sites. Just click on rubber bumpers. I recommend just getting 2 20kg bumpers and putting metal on the rest its much cheaper than getting an all bumper set.

I found a set on ivanko for $810, its an uncolored 300lb training set. A little better, but still a tad expensive. I kind of like the metal idea, but i've done that at my schools weightroom and the bar feels slightly unbalanced due to the outside plates being metal and unbalanced, but thats just me. And a side note, once i get the set eventually will just a protective flooring that i could buy from mcsports suffice to protect the floors? I wouldn't have to buy a platform also would I?

BFS bumpers are pretty reasonable. http://biggerfasterstronger.com/details.asp?pID=642&category=0&subcategory=25&size=0&search=&page

Someone recently had a post about a brand that is also pretty reasonable. Kraikenburg or something like that - I've used them and they were fine.... If I find it again, I'll post a link.

Have you looked at bigger, faster, stronger?

Also my brother was ordering some stuff from Turkey that is good and I guess was dirt cheap. I will ask him how he ordered it and get back to you if your interested.
