View Full Version : Hip flexor sore during deads

hey all, my hip flexor gets a little tight / sore during my deads. I think it needs to be strengthened.

Any thoughts on some good lifts?

I'll also check out www.exrx.net.

hmm, I had this a few years back. I think I just streched more(hips, flexors, glutes) and I'm pretty sure that fixed it.
Can't remember 100% though, give it a shot and let us know how it goes.

After looking into some other posts, i think it's caused by weak hips. I just changed to sumo deadlifts.

I'll be on some of those girlie machines to strengthen my hips, in addition to other bar exercises.

Thanks for the advice. definately will stretch.

Sumo can take time to ease into. Just don't go too crazy until it feels right.

Ease into sumo. You might want to consider squatting narrow on days you'll be pulling sumo and vice versa.

Pulling sumo has been hell on my hips so far.

Do you DL conventional or sumo? Ever had any injuries or other issues?

When I first began sumo lifts, my hips were very sore also, especially since I am a fairly close stance squatter. Give it some time, it will eventually get better.

148 meet lifts
squat 565
bench 350
deadlift 589

throw on some briefs. they really protect your hips when you are squatting/pulling wide on a regular basis.
