I was looking for something in my cupboard and found a tub of whey protein with about 3 kilo still in it, the use by date was 4 years ago.
Id hate to waste it, should i still drink it? I hear that whey protein degrades over time, how much would this have degraded? It smells fine.

Four years?...... Wow. If it had been opened, I'd toss it, but that's just me...

Up to one year from the expiration date Adam?
Powder I try not go go over 3 months past best before date, personal preference. I find the taste and mixibility starts changeing.
Now protein bars are different for me, I just ate some bars this A.M. that were 'best before ' last june or so:p
The bars were hard as a brick, any that have any smells get tossed, or any odd color.
But, Powders so cheap just toss the 4 year old crap.

***thinking to myself - Hey, scarz has a new avatar!***
Yep, throw it out or sell it to Adam! :clown:
No one has mentioned this yet, but don't you find it a bit odd that you don't know what's in your cupboard? Do you clean where you live? For all you know there could be insects living in there - or worse - a poor, abandoned sack of unshelled, roasted and salted peanuts that has been neglected...
My cortisol levels are rising with the thought...
Best,

Funny you mention that, I went through my cupboards last week and guess what I found, a big unopened bag of Planters Dry Roaster Peanuts!
I'll trade ya for whatever Expired protein ya got:p

any protein is good protein.
Uhh, except that it degrades overtime and becomes useless..

11 dollars! Blimey, stuff is cheap in the US!
What brands of protein powder are that cheap? The stuff I buy comes in at about £35, which is approaching $70!!!
I get stuff like ON whey etc... A 5lb tub from a discount store is £35, and can cost up to £45 in more expensive places...!

Be careful man! i had a tub of vanilla walmart protein that sat in my flour and sugar cabinet for a few months...in the mean time i had bought a better tasting higher quality protein. after a while i finally noticed i still had the tub. i opened to see if it was still good...but the protein was laced with a bunch of small black dots. not knowing what it was, i put it next to the trash so that the next time i took the trash out i wouldnt forget it...long story short...when the trash filled up i brought it out to the trash bin along with my protein...when i dumped the protein out into the trash can (so i could recycle the tub) a whole cr@p load of dead moths came pouring out. Those black dots i mentioned earlier where moth eggs....mmmmmmm...
