I'm ready to invest in a real suit but I am a little confused about what I should get.
I really only have enough cash to buy one suit so I need one that is effective for both squat and dead lift.
Just how much different are dead lift specific suits compared to a squat suits? I know the cuts and seams are located differently but is the difference significant enough to be an issue worth considering? If I get a dead lift suit will it also be good to squat in? Is a squat suit also good for dead lifting?

I sumo dead and use a wide stance for squat also. here's a couple vids for reference:

which federation(s) are you planning to compete in? their are some feds that allow 1-ply only, 2-ply, and up to multiple ply lifting suits.

ive heard many good things about the metal pro squatter: http://www.flexcart.com/members/elitefts/default.asp?m=PD&cid=204&pid=718

i have a metal IPF squatter which is close stance. ive tried pulling conventional in it but it didnt feel natural. made me pull with a ninja turtle back

From what ive heard, the metal v-type squatter is awesome for wide squats and sumo deads. Since you probably wont get as much out of a deadlift suit as you will a squat suit, you may want to get the squatter and then when you do wear it for deads, you'll get a little extra support from it.

I know some people don't like it, but I use an Inzer Hardcore (squat suit) for deadlifts... it works well for both.

Metal V-Type is awesome for sumo deads and wide stance squats. Me, Deeder, and TommyBoy use V-types and we're all wide stance guys.

I pull (sumo) in a Metal V-type squatter... I'd go with the regular material (as opposed to the viking material) if you're going to be deadlifting in it as well as squatting. You'd get more from the viking material while squatting but it would make it too hard to get down to the bar for your deadlifts.

I agree, go with the metal v-type. I can't comment on the viking v-type just yet, but i'll be getting it on tuesday and i'll give it a try on saturday and let you know how it goes.

The viking material is a lot stiffer. The viking suits are a *little* looser in the legs and tighter in the hips. I get lots of rebound from my viking squatter but there's no way I could pull in it.

I have the metal viking briefs, and I can pull great in them.

To each their own I guess... The way it was explained to me was that you'd get the same pop off the floor with the regular material without added trouble getting to the bar.

I know I wouldn't be able to get to the bar in my viking squatter... It's really stiff.
