View Full Version : Gymless...damn you grafters!
http://www.suntimes.com/news/metro/543626,cheetah090507.article
After a week of vacationing I get back and ready to head on into my gym only to find a note on the door saying it's closed due to "corruption and graft". I wasn't in love with my gym, but it was nice and only a 10 minute walk away. Time to find a new home. :(

Welcome to my world. I've trained at 5 different gyms in the last three weeks. I feel like a meathead gypsy.
Crunch is too far away but it might be a decent alternative until they figure out who or what or whatever is going to take over the local. it's perfectly situated.

lol @ Crunch. You will be the sechsay. We had one around were I work and all I ever saw in there were people doing cardio kickboxing. Very small almost non-existant weight section. It'll be different, you might enjoy the change of pace.

What is a graft?
this is what i found:
the term for corruption in politics that involves crooked money making schemes. Often the term is associated with big city politics, where opportunities for graft are endless for a well-entrenched political group or "machine." A typical scheme might involve rigged bids for road or construction work. In exchange for a hidden payment or kickback, the politicians throw the work - often at an inflated price - to a company run by friends. ...

"corruption and graft".(
How long have you been in Chicago? Corruption is nothing new to this city.

LOL.."corruption and graft."
Is Shakespeare the owner?
Graft refers to political corruption. He used the word incorrectly. Basically the owner mismanaged the chain of gyms, blamed his employees when he couldn't pay the bills, had a breakdown (he's bipolar) and send out a random disjointed email and message to all members. The bank quickly took over the gym, set up its own management and openedit up after only about 3-4 days being closed.
I've been in Chicago 9 months...in the area for about 10-11. I have learned that corruption is nothing new to Chicago. With all it's faults I'll still take it over cleveland any day...heck I'll even take it over Houston. It's a pretty amazing city and despite the winters, I'm still very happy with the move.

You guys will either laugh or cry when you read this.
I have seen a lot of things on this forum about "grafters" at gyms, and how people don't like them. I kept wondering what that meant. And this just shows how ******ed I am. One of the things that came to mind, is that they are people who cheat with their strength gains by getting a surgery that "grafts" muscle tissue into theirs. Isn't that the dumbest ****ing scifi bull**** imagined thing you've ever read? I didn't really believe it. But the thought was there and I considered it. I figured that I don't know anything about weightlifting or biology and this may be some new thing people are doing.

Is it irony that the gym's name was "Cheetah?"

Forget Quads. I recommend Ladies' Workout Express! That would allow you to wear all the leotards and thongs and leg-warmers you have with pride.

No, that's coincidental, not ironic. It would have been ironic had it been named "Uncorruptable Gym".
Lynn...I'm also joining the Curves next to my building. They give you free green iced tea at the end of your jazzercise.

They give out green tea at Curves? I thought they gave out free tapes of the "This Little Light of Mine" song.
