Hi. My girlfriend just tore her ACL playing soccer and now she needs surgery and some TLC.
I'm wondering what might be best for her to eat. I said to get lots of protein to minimize muscle loss in her leg...But other than that I don't know what to say.
Whats the best way to eat through a debilitating injury?

I'd agree on the protein front. Also do NOT diet during this time - eat at maintenance, let the body heal.
Lots of fruit and veggies, healthy fats, protein... if she's on fish oil, get her off them for a couple weeks before surgery, but get her back on afterward. I'd keep junk food/extra carbs down to a dull roar during healing to minimize inflammation.
And get her hammies built up so she doesn't wreck the OTHER ACL. Women are notoriously quad dominant, and this means increased risk of ACL tears.

Where do you live just out of curiosity?
Make sure she follows through with ALL her post-op rehab. If she starts getting lazy it will take longer to heal.
