Currently I am eating a can of tuna, 1/2 cup of oatmeal, and a bannana about 45 min before my workout. This being said do you think I need to ingest some simple sugars immediately after my workout. I understand the concept of glucose levels becoming low with strenous workouts but is my pre workout meal taking care of those low levels. I currently drink a whey protein shake (only about 3 carbs) immediately after my workout.

Really, don't overthink this - It doesn't matter as much as some people think.

Here's what I do:

About an hour before training (sometimes as much as 2 hours, call me crazy), I eat a 'normal' meal. By normal I mean some type of protein, some veggies, maybe some fruit, maybe some carbs.

During training, I drink at least a 20 ounce Powerade.

Immediately after training, I drive home. When I get home, I eat a 'normal' meal, again, protein, veggies, and in this meal, I almost always eat some pasta or bread or something.

If you think sucking down 40g of whey helps, go for it.

But you should aim to get carbs in pre- and post-workout.

60-100g wholegrain carbs and 20-30g protein pre workout.
60g high GI carbs and 20-30g protein immediately, post workout.

Just eat and grow... dont worry. Just follow the basic guidelines.

Before: 1 cup oatmeal, 2 scoops whey.
After: 1 gatorade, one scoop of whey. This is within 20 minutes of workout.

Rest of day: Eat veggies, meat, drink lots of water, whey protein, and complex carbs.
