View Full Version : any advice for 550lbs dead lift (video)

whats up guys I went for 550lbs dead lift on wed. of last week and I got it up to about my knees. can you guy me some advice on my forum if you think it could to improved. im 6'3 202lbs and im only 15. if anyone knows or could tell me how to fined out what the dead lift record is for 15 year olds in the state of florida.:strong:

It's not the best angle to give advice.

1. Stop making noise when you lift - hold your air in
2. Keep your head up
3. Your upper back is very weak
4. Your abs are very weak
5. Your hamstrings and low back are weak.
6. Pull in socks - those shoes put your weight on your toes and that's bad

You just need to gain some weight and get stronger. If you're an athlete, concentrate on your sport. If you're a lifter, then start eating. You have a long frame and you need to just fill it out.

Ah jeez, and to think I actually sounded this annoying a year or so ago...

anyway to the point.

You look like a strong kid but as rhodes mentioned there are alot of weaknesses on you, most notably your upperback.

1. fix your upper back, heavy rack pulls, rows and chins, in that order.
2. Pull barefoot or in Olympic weightlifting shoes, either is good.
3. Start doing weighted planks to get some ab strength going.
4. Do other types of deadlifts such as stiffies etc to strengthen your hamstrings and focus on keeping a tight back. I bet yor lower back rounded to.

Oh... and from another teen, dont think your that special, it took me a while to learn all the natural strength and genetics in the world doesnt mean **** if you dont have the right attitude and state of mind.

I never got strong till I stopped telling people I was.

thank you for the advice fellow teen. but I dont think im that strong. I dont walk around thinking im gods gift or something great. I lift because its a hobby of mine, and it helps me in football. Also im not to clear on what your saying about right attitude and state of mind????:bang:

thank you for the advice fellow teen. but I dont think im that strong. I dont walk around thinking im gods gift or something great. I lift because its a hobby of mine, and it helps me in football. Also im not to clear on what your saying about right attitude and state of mind????:bang:

okay. thanks again man. hey whats your dead lift and clean? back in march I got 250lbs clean. or metric it works out to be 113.4 kg.

The point is to lift the weight. Not almost lift it. And, no offense, but it wasn't even close.

i still think there should be credit givin to a 15 year old who is thin as a rail getting 550 to the knees.

give 500 a shot to the OP on video

Hey stump I *think* he was wearing a belt (unless they were his boxers), see at minute 0:16. Not that that has much to do with anything, it was a good attempt.

Lower the weight, work on the form. Improve your core strength and eat.

I don't care what you play, any type of strength sport (weightlifting, football, hockey), you will only improve vastly from chucking another 35-40 pounds on that frame.

You also never had that 550, you got it to the knees but you were in a horrible position to continue the lift even if you had it in the tank.

- Start with your hips lower
- Don't jerk the bar from the floor, you lose all tightness when you do this
- Don't let your back round
- Don't ever do that again... I'm amazed you haven't hurt yourself yet. Get somebody experienced to teach you how to lift properly.

Everything has been pretty much said but if you're looking to get a record you'll have to do it without straps. Start training that grip and ditch the straps.

thanks alot guy/girls for all the advice. I no I was not close at all to getting the lift. I wanted to get a point of view on what I should start working on first because weight lifting season is right around the coner. O and I was wearing a belt. I have gotten 500lbs dead lift. and when I got that I riped the callous off my ring finger. thats the only reason I was using straps to prevent it from ripping off again.lol

I dunno, maybe its just me, but that looked pretty painful. I think you should take the weight down...

I dont know man... I feel like if he keeps going like that, he's definitely going to hurt himself. I wouldn't reward him for that lift at all. Not to take anything away, sure, thats quite a feat...but its dangerous too.
