im going to start a cut for the first time because i have been lifting for 2 years and ive gained the mass and the strength.

what im curious about is when i start out to find out what my maintainence calories are by weighing myself if i should weigh myself after i eat or before i eat or if i should/shouldnt drink any water before so that i get an accurate reading on the scale

any ideas would be appreciated

It doesn't matter. Just weigh yourself under the same conditions every time.

First thing in the morning is usually a good time (after you've used the bathroom but before a shower). Doesn't really matter though.

First thing in the morning after you pee is normally the easiest to get consistent measurements, but like Drew said, as long as your consistent it doesn't matter. Doing in first thing in the morning just helps being consistent.

Weigh yourself naked and first thing in the morning before eating or showering. Go to the bathroom first if you must. Measure your weight once a week. Your weight can shift throughout the day. I weigh 6 pounds more at the end of the day than I do when I first wake up. You can also gain a few pounds after getting out of of the shower.

Just an example. This was yesterday

Wake up, 215.2
Pee 213.0
Eat breakfast 216.1
Take a dump 214.9
End of day 218.5
This morning 213.0

I never thought I'd see the day..That's one of the few words I always screw up. It happens when you type at 120 words per minute.

weight yourself first thing in the morning.

However i think using the mirrior is a better tool in checking your progress on a cut.

i never said its a better scale to measure your progress.

Two people at 180lbs...one could look lean while the other could look sloppy.
If your cutting to look better naked, then you should check your progress naked.

How do you tell if your cutting too much with a scale?

i just meant that i have been told by members on the forums to shoot for 1 lb loss a week. or around there..

i was just saying if you measure it with a mirror, how would i know if i drop more than 1 - 2 lbs a week.

Some members like to be more grim when it comes to their diet. others like me are more layed back.
either way you go isnt wrong, aslong as your acheiving your goals.

I guess after you been doing this for a while, you will know how much you have to eat to lose x amount of weight. If im looking in the mirror and im looking leaner and im not losing any strenght, then im a happy cutter.

very true.. i mean heck what are numbers anyway..the whole purpose of a cut in my situation is to LOOK better anyway. besides i kind of have an idea of how much i can eat every day.
