Okay i''m a good 40 pounds over weight at the least and I lifted for a month in april quit because my gym was way to much money and now am back and payed up with a diff gym for a year. I know diet is the most important and lifting well etc but is there anything else I can/should take as a basically beginner with slight expierence. Currently I'm taking On whey protein usually have two shakes a day. Is creatine a good option for me or should I just not bother with other supps besides whey.

I'm sorry but I've read your paragraph a few times and am not sure what you're trying to do - you say you're 40lbs over which makes me think you may be trying to lose fat, but the rest of it has a tone of gaining muscle.. Which would you like help/suggestions with, they cannot be done simultaneously.

and screw the gym memberships if you're splitting ends to make the bill, just hit up craigslist! I spent $50 a few weeks ago for quite the little gym and it's in my house, not a drive somewhere to share equipment!

Last December I was 310lbs (5 foot 10)and fat,I could bench 155x8 and curl 95x6 and military press about 100x6.Now Im 244lbs,just hit 200x6 on the bench,120x8 on curls and 140x7 on mil. press. My fat has gone down and my muscle up.3 times a week hit the weight hard and walk/jog for 45min(mostly walk),no fast food,no soda.Tons of Protein, creatine, vitamin, and maybe some other supp. if you like. This is working for me and I havent been real strick about it,but I stick to it.Now that Im not as fat I can run farther and Im losing more weight.

So why does it work for me?I'm no pro, alot of these guys know more then I ever will and move more weight then I can imagine, but they say It doesnt work?Maybe when I start trying to push 350 up it'll make a difference.

And I "second" that screw the gym membership comment, they are rip offs.Free weights and a bench someone was throwing away did it for me.Poor people gotta work out too!

it's not even just a cash thign - I far prefer a home gym. There's something to be said for private toilet, your own kitchen, control of the radio, no shirt rules lol, no drive there/back, no wait for equipment, etc.

Plus it's almost always cheaper. I hate how gyms operate, and love it simultaneously. They know people fizzle out so quickly from their training, so the goal isn't to get you to become a member, but rather to sign a 1 or 2 (or more) year contract. That way, when month 2 or 4 comes and you puss out, you're still a paying customer for a good while!!

agree with the contracts. Think of all thouse people you see after newyears that never come back

oh the contract game is like 95% of what's important at many gyms, a kid who worked for me before was a gym manager right before I hired him, he told me all about it. How you sign an iron-clad contract, they'll drop monthly fees to increase the contract length if it boosts the total value of teh life of the contract, cuz they know 9/10 people aren't gonna be there after a few months. It's all about the close of the contract and how long you can make that a recurring bill for.

LOL @ the podcast, I could probably make some friggin bank from horny middle-aged housewives!!! Damn now ya got me thinking!

If you got a university gym it's not really as bad - all kids your age, usually you can just walk there instead of drive, and free. They can get insanely busy though, I was in college last year and did go to the gym for deadlifting, but that was all. I had an incline/decline bench (just bench, no bar catch or anything), dumbbell handles, and plates. It was a pain to setup, but it was easier than walking to the gym. The apt complex I lived in during college had basements (not accessible to us, but not slab floors) so I couldn't use real weight, so deadlifts were the only reason to go to the gym and wait for the curl jockeys and quarter-squatters to get the F out of my way!!
