I've been using the crappy earbuds that come with the iPod (and stealing them from my sisters when they inevitably stop working, which has happened four times now) for the past five years. Yet another set stopped working on me today so I need to go pick up some new ones. I don't think I'll be looking at headphones since I generally listen to my iPod on the way to school, around campus and while working out.
Can someone recommend a set of earbuds with decent sound quality? I know there are some amazing ones out there for 100+ but I'm not looking to spend that much.

I like the earbuds designed for passive noise cancellation.

I hate earbuds. They look stupid and they sound even worse.

I just bought a 100 dollar pair of Shure earbuds and I've never heard such awesome sound coming out of headphones before. The noise cancellation is around what seems like 80% as well, so when you turn the music on, you almost can't hear anything. They look pretty cool, too.
Oh wow...just found them for 60 bucks on Amazon. http://www.amazon.com/Shure-E2c-Sound-Isolating-Earphones/dp/B0000CE1UO/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1196406037&sr=8-1
Those are the low end earbuds. Shure earbuds can go for a few hundred dollars, depending oh how nuts you want to go. The carrying case is pretty cool too.

I have a pair of E2Cs; the difference in sound between them and the regular ipod ear buds is incredible.
They fit in your ear canal so they are very snug, which is a huge plus for me; regular ear buds never stay in my ears when I'm running. Being in your ear canal also allows you to listen to music at lower levels (and save your hearing) since you don't need to compete with outside noise (they do a fantastic job of isolating sound). $60 may seem like a lot but your ears will thank you

I paid the full price. I guess I should've checked online first. :bang:
I like that they stay in the ears as well. My other ones were crap and the sound quality between my old ones and the Shure earbuds isn't even a fair comparison because it's so drastic. They really help with Rosetta Stone as well because you can here the speaker enunciate everything so clearly. The noise canceling is great, too. I thought it was a little pricey as well, but when you finally start using them, you realize it's worth it.

I have a pair of the Etymotic ER6i earbuds, and they are superb. Like the others said, with blocking out a great deal of the outside noise, I find that I now only need to have the volume at 50% of max on my iPod, whereas previously with the iPod original earbuds if I was on the underground I had to have it near maximum.
Standard earbuds also tend to fall out for me when I'm running or anything like that. The in-ear design of the Etymotics and Shures stops that from happening.

If you want full cans, Go with Sennheiser HD280-Pros. The absolute BEST open back headphones on the market. Totally flat frequency response and you really don't hear anything when they're on...unfortunately, I would never take these to the gym.
I have a $10 pair of Sony sport clip earbuds from Target I wear to the gym. I like them just as much as the base model Shures mentioned above. I wasted months of my life trying to find stuff that worked well.

Costco had a nice set of ear buds. I'll have to look up the brand but they were $60 and sound great.

I fricking HATE the default iPod buds. They simply will not go in my ears. I have to struggle for two or three minutes just to 'sort of' situate them in my canal, but almost any movement dislodges them.
I love the buds that slip into your ears. Those Shures look good.
