Hey, I dont post often but i'm always checking the boards! I OFFICIALLY started working out in October (thanks to fitness class) and now I'm really into it. I'm 5'10 146lbs and just bought Ultimate Nutrition: Iso Mass Xtreme Gainer. It's got 940 calories per serving when mixed with 16 ounces of milk (1 serving=3 scoops) + 7g of creatine and 64 of 72 grams of whey protein (depending on mixing it with milk or water). Now, i was wondering when the ideal time would be to take this. I want it to be optimal and get the most out of the creatine, protein and gainer and was curious as to when i should take it? Pre WO, Post WO? Also if anyone has tried it let me know how effective it is! thanks.

You'll get the most out of it after a workout, but you should be taking that twice daily and eating like an animal given your current height/size ratio. Also a whole serving is way high and pointless, I'd be doing half - 2/3 servings of that.

Another vote for this response.
Make sure your entire day's nutrition is in line, and don't put all your eggs in just the post-workout shake.
How many calories are you eating each day? How many grams of protein?

Hey. Yeah i definitly am not taking the FULL serving twice daily. whats even more nuts is that it reccomends you to take the full serving THREE times a day! So yeah, i've decided ill take it twice a day, 2 scoops per serving.
And I think i'm eating pretty well, i just started eating properly (for lifting) about a month ago, i aim for about 200g of protein a day and would LIKE to be getting around 4k calories (but its not always that easy). Usually for breakfast im having eggs, cottage cheese, milk. Lunch is always two tuna sandwichs' with 1 cup of peanuts + banana bread. Dinner is where i can slack...i dont have anything planned out, i just eat whats made haha, but its not usually bad foods- spaghetti, strogonoff, steak, chicken, roast. Usually before bed ill squeeze in some cottage cheese.
oh and also, throughout the day i have small servings of: cottage cheese, peanuts, oatmeal- stuff like that

I'd consider cutting the protein back a tiny bit and maybe even uppping the calories (if you start putting on fat too quick cut them back appropriately). *Aiming* for 4k daily? You need to be religious about it, no 'aiming', just a daily 4k requirement. And that may not even be enough.
<<I recommended the protein reduction because it seems a tad more than you need, and protein is harder to digest and not as calorie dense, on a calorie basis, as carbs/fats, as protein has a higher metabolic cost to digest. Your body burns more calories breaking down a gram of protein than a gram of carbs, even though both contain 4 calories from the get-go. At your height / weight you need to make peanut butter tubs your best friend, and edit your last post, because the words 'small servings' in your last sentence shouldn't be there :) >>
