Hey, I looked in the mirror today and saw these weird red lines across my traps. I never noticed them before! They look like scratches but I assure you they aren't. There's no bump or anything, it feels like the rest of my skin; only difference is the lines. Thanks.

have you done squats or anything with the bar/machine on your traps?

Looks like you were on a standing calf raise recently. Happens to me all the time.

cphafner: Yeah, this morning I did squats. And my school has this blue thing that you put on the bar to take the stress of your back, and it just so happens that it wraps around your traps.

this is the thing:

so this is what they're from? Not stretch marks, but what are they?

Busted blood vessels in the skin. The manta presses down on the seam of your shirt.

Yeah, they don't look like stretch marks to me. I've had similar marks from seams of shirts.

It's to take the stress off the shoulders actually (I'm pretty sure anyway? :p)

There's nothing wrong with using that from time to time but I'd get used to squatting with the bar on your back too ;)

Alright thanks everyone. And I'm gonna continue to use this thing (blue thing). I can squat with just the bar, but using this feels better- doesn't make it easier!...or does it?

I don't know if it makes it easier but it does change the mechanics of the squat. You're essentially doing an ultra high bar squat so it'll take a lot less work to stay upright and I imagine you'll be using your quads a lot more than your hammies.

I personally think a manta does make it easier to squat because you lose the whole mechanic of shoulder and elbow positioning and it takes a lot of pressure off of your back etc. We used to have one back in highschool football training and it was much easier to squat with one that it was without.

For leg development though I dont really see why using it would hinder anything.

Not being rude to you Indifference, but the reason you found it easier was because you were only dealing with 365 on the squat. That thing hurts my back badly if I use it and its better to learn to handle the weight without it anyhow.

Unless your training for competition, I see no reason why you cant use it. If it will help you further develop your legs and your just lifting for fun/pleasure/hobby, then keep using it if you really want.

Yep, just posting to confirm that it's from doing squats... I get 'em much worse than that.
