View Full Version : Whey is evil? (Cholesterol)

I've noticed the cholesterol content in some whey--"brand X" I've seen with as high as 23% of daily value in just one scoop.

Assuming I take one protein shake daily (3 scoops mixed with fat-free milk used as a meal replacement, approx 18 oz) I'm consuming almost 70% of my daily cholesterol in one meal. I wasn't even thinking about the cholesterol content until I re-read the side of the jar this morning.

Is this even safe? I was diagnosed with high cholesterol in June 2007 and am currently taking a Statin in the interim while I work on my diet. The goal is to eventually dump the pills--I hate pills. The exercise is given as I'm in the gym 5 times/week--3 lifting and 2 cardio.

Some of you reportedly consume multiple scoops of protein, tons of egg, ice cream, and peanut butter in your shakes--How do you not have sky-high total cholesterol levels? Are there any zero-cholesterol protein supplement powders out there?

Dietary cholesterol intake is generally a very small factor of overall cholesterol. Genetics and exercise are far more important.

That being said, consult with your doctor. He or she will point you in the right direction in regards to your cholesterol intake.

So is that it? I thought the topic would be a bit more controversial or that maybe someone had the same question.

(Borris: Thanks, you seem like you know your stuff, being a fitness coach and all. Was just curious if anyone else wanted to weigh in).

Could you elaborate on this please? or at least link me to some literature on the subject?
Im not questioning you i would just like to pass this information on to someone else and want to be able to ask any "questions"(arguments) they might have for me!

thanks.
