View Full Version : What do I do when I reach my target weight on a bulk?

I was wondering, once I reach my target weight, when would I start cutting to get rid of excess bodyfat? Do most of you start cutting once you reach that weight or do you go above it and then start cutting so that you don't become too far below the target weight?

I don't know why you'd ever stop gaining weight. It doesn't make sense to me.

But, to answer your question, if I were to do the unthinkable, and lose weight, I'd go above my goal by about 10-15lbs. When you drop the bodyfat and clean up your diet, you'll be left with some great gains and something to show for all your hard work.

Your question doesn't make sense. If your target weight is your ending weight
"I wanna be this heavy and look this way"

you're going to have to go WAY above it and cut down depending on your goals. Which you didn't list which is why it doesn't make sense.

Not to hijack the thread but....

If someone was 6ft and wanted to weigh 200 pounds, what weight would they need to bulk to before they started to cut down to 200 pounds?

Noone can tell you. depends totally on your goals and genetics.
I say go for 250 and cut. I'm 6'0 and around 260 now. when I cut down to 220 I start looking decent, there are pics to give you an idea.

200lbs@12%=176lbs of lean mass. So if my calculations are correct you hit 225 at 22% bodyfat. Once you work out the lean mass you can figure out any target weight.

My goal is to get to around 175-180 at around 10-12% bodyfat, I started out at around 149 and around 12% bodyfat. Would I have go around 185-190ish to start cutting and reaching my goal? Sorry if I'm asking odd questions, its my first time really going through a bulk and I want to do it right.

This can be answered by using these concept:


200lbs@12%=176lbs of lean mass. So if my calculations are correct you hit 225 at 22% bodyfat. Once you work out the lean mass you can figure out any target weight.
