Ok, so I've been on a bulk. Haven't tracked calories, and haven't been eating that clean. Unfortunately too, my workout schedule has sucked the past 1 - 1.5 months because of work and school, blah blah blah. So I have skipped a few weeks of not working out.

Went from 200lbs to 222lbs in approx 5 months, definitely seen improvements in my lifting numbers.

Please tell me what you guys think. Decent progress for 5 months? Any advice on getting better defined calves.... my ankles are thick so I think it takes away from my calves.
Thanks, look forward to all responses - both positive and negative!

In January plan on cutting to under 10% body fat, I'm guessing that'll take me to about 180lbs.... its in my sig but i'll say it here anyhow. I'm 5'10.5''

lifting for approx 5 - 6 months

Thanks for the response, yeah I noticed that too. I didn't resize the image at all.... I think my back just got broader so it is making my waist look narrower... trust me, it's not.... it's 36'' last time I checked :moon:

I think I'm going to cut in Jan, to below 10% (I'm thinking that'll be about 180lbs... what do you guys think?), then bulk again from there, but this time track it. I know I have not been consuming enough protein at all.

Thanks for all the responses guys, I hope to cut down quite a bit to have some nice definition.

Anything you see that may be lagging?

This thread won't be complete until I get a response from Built :hello:

Thanks all for the responses, need to start reading up on cutting -- it begins jan 1 '08 :)

Any idea on how I can get the calves to grow more? I'm doing standing calf raises, 440lbs, 15 reps, 3 sets. And do seated ones too... 125lbs

Hey, thanks for following up. Was actually planning on posting pics as I got closer to 185 lbs... I'll just post a couple now.

This has been my first ever bulk/cut cycle... any and all feedback appreciated, particularly:

1) Do you think I'm losing too much muscle mass?

2) Considering the fact that I've only lifted for 7 months (never even entered a weight room/gym till I was 21), do you think I have a possibility of competing in the near future? 2-3/4 years?

3) What seems to be lagging the most?

My goal for this cut is 185lbs. Start weight after bulk 225lbs, current weight 210.5 lbs

Not sure of my maxes on the big 3 yet.... guess is 260 bench, 315 squat, 415 dead....... (I'm benching 225 for reps, squating 275, and DL'ing 315 lbs) -----> about 4-6 reps, 2-3 sets on my good days.

One thing I can see from your front lat spread and your back double biceps is that your lats seem to be lagging. The back shot is hard to tell because it looks like you pulled your shoulder blades together instead of trying to "fan" everything out. I also know that the lat spread is a bitch to do properly so maybe you're not fully extending there either, I know I still have trouble trying to do them.

your analysis of the back double bi is correct, I was scrunching things together... the lats, well.... I work them hard. I had none, i mean 0, when I first started. So I think it's a manner of time before they begin to develop further.... I do chins, DL's, lat pulldowns, bent over rows, etc.... like I mentioned before, I never stepped into a gym till I was 21. And didn't play sports in high school... with the exception of basketball, but that was in europe and there was no concept of weight training there.

You said your waist is 36"? I'm having a hard time visualizing it properly, your arms look like tree trunks compared to your waist in the back double bi :)

You do have great mass though, especially for 6 months.

I think my waist looks so small because my back grew... The arms aren't that big... at least they're smaller than I want them to be.

Ok -- I measured my waist, it's actually 34''... it may have been 36'' post bulk, not sure. I know I got that number from somewhere though.

Your progress is very good from what I have seen. Keep up the good work bro. Consistency is the key to this bodybuilding game, never give up when times seem hard, and always have a positive attitude towards everything. For your question on competing, you have a good solid frame to work with, just keep up the hard work and you will be there in no time. As for your calfs, you have only been training for 6months right? give your body time to grow, some bodyparts take longer then others. Maybe switch up the reps to lower and higher weight for a week or two, then see how progress is from there. Good luck my friend

Thanks for the response, much appreciated. Too bad this is so much of a waiting game, I'm actually cutting right now. So I can't really expect my muscles to grow much, right?

Well it is very hard for you to cut and gain lean muscle but it is deff possible. Just keep your weights up and reps down and stay on your diet/supps and you should be good to go. Try not to drop to many cals at once because thats when your workouts pay the price.
