Has anyone been a "driver" for a pizza place before? I'm about to start college again but it doesn't start for a few more weeks and I was thinking about making some extra cash with all the free time I have. I haven't been working so far on break since I had some surgery to go through (yes I know I've had alot). But how has the job been......it seems pretty easy but there has to be a catch. To ride around in my car listening to music and some how being able to make money seems way to easy. The only problem I can see with this is that I'm terrible at directions and I can also see myself accidentally giving someone the wrong change since I've never directly worked with money in my past jobs. Are the tips good or should I think about doing something else? Thanks for the input..

just take ages counting out change and then the tips will be good, because people get bored waiting, thats my experience anyway.
Seems a pretty easy job but id say youd need to cover your own petrol costs.

There are much better jobs. Why not get something that will benefit you in the future?

I've been a delivery driver for a pizza place and a deli. It basically comes down to navigation under pressure. If you can find your way to some random place quickly, you will get good tips. But sometimes during dinner and lunch rushes and such, if you get lost, you'll blow like 2-3 orders in a row and get almost no tips. Also, the real catch is that most places require you to carry your own insurance and many car insurance plans don't have delivery covered.

Pizza delivery is an easy job, if you can do basic math then you should have zero issues. If you need even take a calculator with you until you get it own your own.. no ones going to judge you your a pizza boy for crying out loud.
IMO try for a better job, lots of campuses have job offerings at the start of a semester. Pizza boy won't pay very well and fuel is supposed to hike up pretty soon... I wouldn't if I were you.
But alot of my friends do pizza delivery and they slack off a good bit making decent change. All depends on the situation.
Nice to see you back anyhow

I don't understand why everyone is talking about math with delivering. People usually don't want their change back and stuff. Example: If the Bill is twenty one and some cents then they'll give you twenty five and thats it. The only thing you'll sometimes have to do is if the bill is like 32 and they pay wit a 50 then they'll say give me back so and so.

The hardest part of delivering pizza isn't basic math; the hardest part is knowing the streets well enough and your car well enough to be a good driver.
My dad has delivered pizza for over a decade. He is seriously the best non professional driver I know and his familiarity with the streets of Philadelphia, and their traffic patterns, is crazy.
He works 3-4 days a week and lives without any real money troubles.

Well I'm terrible with directions but I've lived at my current home for 10 years so I should know the different communities pretty well. However, there are certain places that I haven't been to once (certain out of the way stores) and some places I've only seen 1-2 times so that may create a problem. But mostly I could probably drive around asleep and get there on time.

I delivered pizza for 5 years in the mid 90s and it was good money (was making ~30k a year) but I don't think its a good 2 week job. You spend the first month just getting to know the area. And on that, the problem normally isn't findng the streets but the house number on it especially at night when people don't have numbers on their mail box or curb. Try finding a waiter job or something else like it if you just need something short that can make good dough.
