If so how much? Just wondering as it's not a very common lift.

I've only tried it a few times while doing sets of military presses just to see what sort of difference it makes. I can do around 100 doing military presses and have gotten 140 up once before push pressing.

I've never maxed out.. In fact... The only push presses I've done are at the end of a tough set of millitary presses when I can't get it up strict anymore.

I have done 405 pretty much with no leg drive. I wish I could get my legs more involved with this lift.

Yes, I do them along with push jerks fairly often.

Cornmaster, you haven't voted in your own poll?

When you say push press, what do you mean exactly? What kind of setup.

Umm... The setup where you are on your feet and you press a bar overhead with the help of leg-drive.

Ya that's it.
Instead of doing standing millitary I'm changing to cleans and push press. I think they are a better lift for true real life strength.

Vinny, you have absolutely crazy shoulder power!

405 is insane. If I could do that much weight every time I went anywhere I would press the largest person there so people know whose boss. On a side note, are the 2 people that put 480 serious?!

There is a video of it on Ironscene.com if I am not mistaken. It is CRAZY! He is an incredible presser.

Vinny, I know you're referring to push press, but if you're not getting much leg drive, you have to be close to the world record in the standing overhead press. Have you drilled form on this exercise?

Crazy 450 OHP!

I have done 535 seated from the pins like that. There's a House of Pain print ad with me doing 500. Dru is a strong cat, but has not caught me yet.

I trained it for a strongman (not a NAS) I was in. So it's not something I do often.

Here's a vid of the 400 in competition. It was a couple of years ago. I think I used my legs more than I thought.

Whoops was thinking weighted pushups lol. I can do 50lbs over body weight, 225 at 175 body. Not willing to push more because we are not allowed to drop it free. Have to lower the weight.

The only time I ever dropped weight like that was in that particular competition. I was used to using either a secured rack or cage when doing my pressing. Dealing with the squat racks just seemed to dangerous to me. We were given the ok to drop the weight.

when I competed strongman years ago I did these instead of bench every week. I got to the point where I coud do 315 for 3 and 330 with a 8 and 10" log. That was at a bw of 225. I weight 250 now and I doubt I could do 300 to save my life.

I figure I can probably do 225 fresh. I can power jerk 225 no problem and I did 190x3 jerk/push press AFTER jerks. so I think 225 it is.

That is an excellent press especially relative to body weight.

I see the poll wasn't designed for those of us who have not yet reached a 100 lb. push press. At Guido's urging I too do push press in the gym. I'm up to 85 lbs.

I've never tested my push press but I have a pretty terrible military compared to my big 3. Most I've ever done on a good controlled military is prolly around 170 something.

My overhead has always been pretty weak compared to my other lifts. Last summer I got my PP up to 185 but haven't done much to it since. It's a good exercise.

Amazing strength Vin. 240 was my last 1rm about 2 months ago. I should be able to squeek out a little more now.

Given your numbers, you just need practice with your technique.

Vincent - that is some awesome pressing power! Very few guys in the world are at that level.

Elitepler - The NAS record was at 330 lbs for LW for a while, so you must have been right there.

My best push press in the gym was 275 lbs for 9 reps, and I did push press 340 lbs one day but was trying to jerk it turned into a push press. Both lifts were done around 220 lbs bodyweight. Much of my focus recently has been on improving my push jerks, so the only push pressing work that I do is with a log.

Thanks Tom. Here is a more recent vid from an APA meet. There was no leg drive allowed. I think trying to use my legs actually screws me up.

I do them, I haven't maxed out in a while though. One of the sets I do is:

Shoulder Press: 1-1-1-1-1
Push Press: 3-3-3-3-3
Push Jerk: 5-5-5-5-5

I usually try to start the PP at whatever weight I ended the SP. I then try to to the same PP to PJ. Needless to say I am usually smoked by the time I hit PJ.
