View Full Version : what do you put on your cottage cheese

03-14-2002, 01:15 PM
I'm sick of eating my cottage cheese plain. Last night I put a little bit of strawberry preserves on it and it takes great, it only added about 10gs of sugar. I don't want too many carbs before bed.

So what do you put on your cottage cheese to make it taste better?

fresh mango.

actually that's all i've tried.

both were good.

When I was little I used to like pinnapple and cottage cheese. I usually eat my cottage cheese plain. The fat-free cottage cheese doesn't really have a taste but the 1% milk fat is the best. And there is a difference between non-fat and 1%

03-14-2002, 01:33 PM
I tryed the canned pinnapple and didn't like it. I do like the canned peaches on my cottage cheese.

I go to the supermarket and get cottage doubles by breakstone. they are delicious. comes in all different flavors too. I HATE plain cottage cheese.

03-14-2002, 01:37 PM
Oh god I hate breakstone's fat free cottage cheese!!!!! *Hurls*

the mango was actually awesome miller. i think pretty much any fresh fruit would be good. you could try fresh berries....

03-14-2002, 02:38 PM
miller- i just mix some natural peanut butter/ flax with cottage cheese for my last meal.

03-14-2002, 03:19 PM
Eat it plain, suckapants. Or with flax, and nobody eats flax cuz it tastes good, homey. For breakfast I 'smear' cottage cheese on toast, and it actually makes a decent breakfast. I also make my special cottage cheese fries, cottage dip, cottage primavera, cottage lasagne, and cottage bulee.

Or something. I eat it plain, wtf do you want from me?

03-14-2002, 04:20 PM
I mix a container of cottage cheese with a cup of strawberry (marionberry, whatever) yogurt. You get the great fruit taste and all the benefits of yogurt and cottage cheese. It's especially good if you think the fruity yogurts are sometimes TOO fruity. The cottage cheese helps "dilute" the taste a bit. CC+Yogurt=one of my favorite snacks.

I mix my cottage cheese with a equal portion of tuna, and some spices. Yum!

03-15-2002, 12:55 PM
I add cottage cheese to almost everything I eat. :)

03-15-2002, 01:40 PM
strawberries goes alright with it

but usually just some bread ;)

03-18-2002, 02:22 PM
I usually have it with pineapple. Actually, cottage cheese dont taste that bad compared to tuna. I don't know how you can have peanut butter with it though, jesus, the things you americans mix with your food. ;)

03-18-2002, 05:46 PM
Salt and artificial sweetner....mix and enjoy. ;)

03-19-2002, 06:47 PM
Honeydew or cantalope. Just like in the movie Zoolander. Anybody else seen that? That is so good.

03-19-2002, 06:51 PM
I eat it with salt and pepper on it.

03-19-2002, 06:51 PM

Course ground black pepper, with some triscuits

03-20-2002, 07:07 PM
YUP!!! Triscuits rock!

03-21-2002, 09:04 AM
I mix it with pineapple (crushed), a few dried cranberries, yogurt, and a little bit of sunflower seeds to add crunch.

Or I mix a half to 3/4 cup with 1scoop choco protein powder and 1 tblspoon natty PB. Add a little milk if it's too thick, and you've essentially got a protein filled peanut butter pie!

I also blend it smooth with yogurt and spices to make a DAMN fine veggie dip or spread to top burgers with.
I could go on and on! (and frequently do!)

03-21-2002, 09:46 AM
OK, here we go:

Mix ~250 g cottage cheese with one raw egg. (wash the egg before)
Add honey, and -if you like- raisin.

Tastes good! I loved it when I was a kid. In fact, I still do.

03-21-2002, 11:52 PM
Wash the egg? How in the hell do you wash an egg?

Or do you mean mix it with an actual egg. Does that add special egg flavor from the shell? Am I not understanding something? Is this an ancient Japanese secret?

I'm going to try the latter. Oh, and what is the fat ratio of the cottage cheese?

03-22-2002, 12:39 AM
OK, Step by step:

1. Take an egg from the package. (don't break it yet)
2. Take it to the sink. Pour water on it. (normal water, room temperature)
3. Wash gently using both hands. No chemicals needed.
4. Torn off water, since you don't want to waste it.
5. Now you can break the shell.
6. Add egg without the shell.

Any fat ratio. Your choice. If my memory serves me well, it was 25% I've used. Not sure though.
BTW it's not a Japanese meal, since I'm not Japanese. People in Japan hardly have any cottage cheese.

03-22-2002, 03:30 AM
The energy % ratio in the cottage cheese I use:

% of kcal

Carb ~10
Protein ~70
fat ~20

03-22-2002, 10:39 AM
I eat it with it on saltines! YUM!

03-22-2002, 11:53 AM
I eat it with 1/2 cup of Dole Lite Mixed Fruit.
