going to estimate 16% bf.

i am aiming for 225+ @ 10% bf by mid june.
(need to lose 11lbs of fat and gain 30lbs of muscle)
possible?

30 pounds of muscle in 5 months while cutting off 11 is pretty much impossible from what I know. I can't remember the specifics but I remember hearing something like the average adult male can put on at most about 3lbs of dry muscle mass per month. so that only ads up to 15lbs, and that's without cutting off anything.

I'm guessing you're closer to 20%.

Assuming no loss of lean mass (but no gain), you'll hit 10% when you drop about 20 lbs.

Aim for a pound a week, you'll hit that by June.

You got a plan?

i was depending on newbie gains to keep fueling me.
only starting like second month of serious rippetoe right now, eating like an ox.

no super plan to get to it, just was in the mindset that i could be at 10% by june... could i get like 13% by early july and 10% by september? lol


biggest thing i think i need to do is fine tune my diet.

With your age and novice status, newbie gains are in your favour, to be sure.

You may be able to put on a pound or two of muscle a month for the first few months while you cut, but that rate won't persist for long. If you manage to only drop fat and not drop muscle while getting down to 10% you'll have done well! Any muscle gains will just get you to 10% that much sooner.

Andrew listen to built, she helped me A LOT.

And 225 @ 10% bf is quite a big goal. I was 140 15% and now im at 187 around 15% bf after 1.5 years. Things take time. Work slowly.

Hi Andrew,

It's good to have goals but don't get your hopes up .. the time frame is too short.

I'd either get down to 12% fat first then start bulking up OR bulk up first and maybe get fatter along the way, then cut. If you wanna cut and gain muscle at the same time its prob gonna take you a long time to get where you wanna be. During that time, you may get too pissed off and quit lifting .. or go to the dark side to try and fasttrack to your goals.

I'd cut to 12% then gain some muscle. Having less fat you will see the LBM differences much better than if you were fatter (good for the mind as it keeps you motivated)

yeah 20 sounds a bit up there, 17-18? lol idk.


reading a little about nutriton now (the new rules of lifting) , then Scrawny to Brawny.

what program to cut, i imagine rippetoes will be a little hard. i THINK there sa version that takes into consideration cutting. i guess i could just still try it and push weights up gradually still... or should i use BGB?.. or maybe something else?

With regards to routines, you will get a varied response. 2 good ones I can mention are Bill Starrs 5x5 and WBB1.

It dont really matter what program you cut with .. a lot of people will agree thats it best to keep the reps low rather than do high rep sets while cutting.
Eating less calories will make you lose weight and weightlifting will help you to keep onto what muscle you have .. if you're new to lifting, you might even gain a little muscle.

i just looked in the mirror, im fine bulking for a while longer i dont mind having some extra fat on me... when i start to stall HARD on ripps i will start cutting i think. Will continue to lift hard and keep diet in check.. reading alot too, at the moment im about half way through "The New Rules of Lifting"

today i didn't eat any nasty foods,

8am- 3scoop maximus w/ water
12:30pm- half pound chicken in a ginger soy sauce, with some potatoes +2glasses of milk
slept for 3 hours
4:30-slice of pizza, 2 glasses of milk
7:30- chicken parm (and french fries :() + 2glasses of milk
10:30- 3scoop maximus

doing an essay now, then going to sleep.
