I don't know whether this has been brought up before, but with mayonnaise being mega high in calories (and fat!!) and tuna on its own being a bit bland, i decided to try an alternative, being french salad dressing the result was amazing it tasted gorgeous and furthermore i only needed a small amount to mix it up making it one of the tastied tuna recipes ever

I can eat plain Tuna outa the can anytime, anyday, anyplace and still love it like the day I opened my first can. ;) I don't see why people just don't like it plain. Actually, I add some worchesterchire sauce to it sometimes and eat it like that. Other times, I add very little mayo. Now, that I'm on a CKD diet, I can add as much whole mayo as I like, within limitations for caloric intake of course!;)

But, try the worchesterchire sauce, it's a good combo.....IMHO.

Anyone ever tried tuna with scrambled eggs?

2 tbsp Balsamic vinegar, a little lemon juice and splenda. Helps keep the salt and sugar content down from stuff like BBQ sauce, ketchup, etc.

Tuna is yukk by itself, i have to add a bit of mayo or sommat, to get rid of that dry taste.

same here lately ive been opting for makeral in tomato/mustard sauce it tastes much better although its protein content doesn't rank as high it contains lots of omega 3's which aid in fat metabolism

In the UK Heinz do a range of canned soups called BIG SOUP.

drain the brine outta a can of tuna empty into a saucepan w/ the soup and cook.

as the tuna heats up it begins to seporate into real small chunks and the tuna taste has basically all but disappeared!

The best ones to use would be something like oxtail or tomato, something with a fairly strong flavour just incase the tuna flavour is still lurking.

its easy enough to fit in 2 cans of drained tuna = over 80g protein in one bowl of soup!

If none of you guys have tried Dave's Albacore Tune, find their website and GET SOME. It needs nothing - you can east it out of the can and drink the juices, it's so tasty.

It's totally different from mass produced tuna. Try it and you'll never go back. It's expensve, but WORTH IT.

Ive tryed loads of different ways to make my tuna taste better:

1. Add Vineger and Limejuice as low calorie

2. Heinz do a dressing called "Creamy Dressing" very low in calories, tastes great.

3. Mixing tuna with hard boiled egg whites. Youll need to add something further to the tuna to moisten it, but if you make 2 tin of tuna with around 5 eggs you can make what i like to cal a "protein pot" and eat it throughout the day.

4.Add turkey slices to tuna sandwiches for added protein/better taste.

I saw this in one of the fitness mag's
can of tuna (albacore) more protien
dijion musturd or those new kicker ketchups
sweet relish wrap in a burrtio and eat
I made one today for lunch really good plus you can experiment with different mustards and ketchups or even salad dressings

Uhh, why does everyone avoid tuna+mayo. It only takes about 1-1.4 tablespoons of mayo to spruce it up, and that's only like 10 grams of fat, most of which being poly-unsaturated.

We really need to give the calorie source known as "fat" a different name.

I usually eat my tuna with rice and pepper. I've tried mixing a lot of other stuff with my tuna like honey mustard, ketchup, salsa, ceasar salad dressing, and terriyaki sauce. Tuna with boiled egg whites isn't that bad. I think I'm gonna try it with scrambled eggs tomorrow morning.

I used to think that tuna straight out of the can was really dry, too, but I found that if you don't drain all of the water (most kinds do come in water) its a lot more moisty (oviously). But it's also a lot easier to eat it straight out of the can with nothing added that way. I just finished eating some like that, actually. :) Or you can pile it on a slice of bread or two and you have a sandwich. Very yummy.

i've got all sorts of tuna recipes.

saute it with olive oil, onions and pepper, make tuna patties, tuna and soem white beans and red onions with balsamic vinegar drizzled over (works best w/olive oil packed), tuna mixed in mac and cheese (beercan ;) )

as for those of you trying to say tuna is like a female, either you've never actually been with chick, or you are with some nasty hoes. if a woman smells like fish, she has cooties.

Try picturing that in your mind lol.

I have eaten plain tuna and oatmeal at least 3 times a day for the last month(being poor and all). The less you eat flavored food, the less you care.

Does anyone else agree that tuna out of those vacuum sealed packages tastes much better than the out of the can variety?

The gouge the f*ck out of you on the price though, I suppose they have to rocket them out into space and back again as part of the packaging process.

Oh, I guess I could actually contribute to this.

My recent recipes have included garlic pepper, Zatarain's seasoning, ranch dressing, and even Dale's steak marinade (not all at once mind you). Tossing in some cottage cheese can help too.

Hey Tryska,

What is your recipe for tuna patties?? I need to get a little adventurous with my tuna too:D

Tryska
09-21-2002, 08:53 AM
it's real easy franji...

1 large baking potato, baked, a coarsely mashed
1 med oinion diced
1 12oz can tuna
a little garlic powder, salt, pepper, and red chili powder (just a smidge)
1 raw egg

combine those ingredients together, form patties, dip in beaten egg, and saute in olive oil.

i think ice has a tuna burger recipe that's similar, but different, and is grilled i think, if fat isn't your friend.
