The weight at the bottom feels like 635, but gets a little harder as the bar gets closer to lockout.

Thanks a lot,

Thats the opposite of what I would expect. I guess I need to get some bands and get in the game.

What is the point of the bands? Why not just lift the weight?

are you serious?

supposing you are, heres the answer.

the bands are taking weight off the closer he gets to his chest, i.e. they are providing more resistance upward. as he begins the concentric portion of the lift, the higher he goes, the less the bands help. this follows the body's natural strength curve for most.......the closer you get to lockout, the stronger you are.

the bands in that setup strongly mimic a bench shirt.

Ok, maybe I should have been less vague. I realize that the bands will pull the weight up by tension, and yes I know that the closer he gets to his chest the greater the tension. What I was asking was, why not just lift a weight you can handle raw rather than using tools to help at your weak point? I never understood the point of a bench shirt or bands or anything like that. If anything, I can understand using bands the opposite way, so that the weight feels heavier closer to lockout. Then again, I'm not into powerlifting, so I guess my input doesn't hold much ground.

your input isnt invalidated because youre not into it. I personally dont care much for equipment, and thats why I choose not to use it, but to those who do, I still admire the work and effor they put in.

using the bands reversed like JT did still does make the weight heavier at lockout, its just a different feel than using bands the normal way.

using tools to help your weakpoint is a way to make sure you continually progress, they are very useful even for raw lifters.
