I don't think there is anything to look at between these two videos. Its like comparing apples to oranges - they aren't even the same lifts. Both are pretty much equally impressive feats of strength (though I side with the Olympic lifter if really pushed. I'm biased though..)

If you look at Sam Byrd's 705 raw, he has a lot more trouble with it than the OL'er's 682 for a double, and he isn't going down as low:

you cant compare olympic squats to any squats, maybe the old school USPF style squats but thats all.

Oly lifters are pwnage.

My coach got an old tape of Reza squatting 950ish.

Im a PL fan but I have much respect for those high number oly squats. Its damn impressive seeing a lifter squatting x3 their bw without gear.

If he'd have worn a belt and turned off Beyonce in the background then he would have got a few more reps.
Forking impressive though.

You mean to tell me that Beyonce doesn't pump you up?

I thin Beyonce is rather fitting conisedring the size of her ass and how much she could squat.

That Sam Byrd has to be walking around at atleast 220 he's huge.

How can u judge parallel from video? that was obviously high! ~~rolling eyes~~

very impressive. says he is only 21 also. he did have on knee wraps, even tho they were thin and looked fairly loose.... but no belt! according to joeskopec.com 1RM calcultor which i find to be extremely accurate, 682x2 is a 714. no doubt a belt would help his stability ALOT.

by the way, here is a better vid of my squats from the NERB: http://media.putfile.com/Sam-Byrd-at-the-NERB

1st sq-635, 2nd 675, 3rd 705

i weighed in at 207 for that meet, actual weight was closer to 217. not an uncommon drop for OLY lifters either. i believe the raw lifts are more impressive to me also trop. i am more proud of my raw squats than my WR's. gear lifts impress me also, but its just not the same... but i dont want to open that can of worms! haha

Heh - its hard not to be impressed with your lifting, man, even when I really only watch olympic-lifting videos for the most part. Good luck with the training - I'm looking forward to seeing some more PR's from you.
