Here are some pics of me @ 183 pounds on Feb 22 08. I've gone from 171 to 183 from the end of football season which has been about 4 months I would say. I planned on bulking to 190 by football (august 10th or so), but it's going pretty well so it might move up to 200 by football. Football season will be my cut. I am posting pictures now before I get too big, and I would still like to get some critique about my physique even though bodybuilding is not what i'm about, it's still nice to see what others think! Anyways, here-goes...

Good work with shaving the head. You look much less douche-y now. And yeah, nice progress all-around. Keep at it; 195-200 sounds about right without getting fat. Depending on what position you're playing, it might not be a bad idea to think about adding a bit more weight over time.

For now, though, with your given frame and age, I wouldn't advise packing on the weight too fast. There's nothing worse than a kid with an athletic build packing on the weight too fast and ending up looking sloppy.

tofer - thanks dude. i know, that hair was disgusting. well i play offensive and defensive line both, guard and D end respectively. this year i was pertty decent as a junior, and at 168 lb. so i dont think packing on any extra fat will help me anyways, i use my speed and technique to be good. so don't worry about me gettin to look sloppy! so you think getting to about 200 sounds good, and anything over would probably be pushin the limit?

thanks very much keith and michael, means alot coming from both of you. do you both think bulking to 200 is fitting, or should i adjust? it kinda sounded like tofer was saying 200 might be too much for how young i am or something.

Well, what means the most to you?

Aesthetics, powerlifting or football?

If it's powerlifting or football, you could get away with bulking to 200 lbs. I'm not sure what BF% you'd be unhappy with, but play around with a bulk and stop when you want. IMO, bulking to a certain weight is dumb.

alright keith, thanks for that. football means most to me until the end of next years season, then i will most likely never play it again in my life. dont get me wrong i love the game completely, but i dont think i would have a chance at the college i am going to. and your right about the certain weight thing... i kind of think of a mix of both i think. the number is just a statistic i suppose. i think i'll do what you said, stop when i think i need to. thanks!

If football means the most to you as of now, I wouldn't go too crazy with the bulk as I'm sure you'd want to keep as much speed as possible for most positions. What position do you play? I'd shoot for a pound a week or so.

well that's kind of the reason i want to get big is because i play O guard and D end. but i use speed as my main attribute both ways. we pull guard a ton and before i broke my fibula i was the best pulling guard we had because my speed. and at D end i can use my quickness and agility to get past the tackle/tight end. but i have always wanted to be as big or as strong as the other guy across from me and that has usually never happened, but now i noticed im still pretty good at what i do. so i think i will bulk until i start losing speed, and try to gain speed while bulking and if that doesnt work then quit. does that sound good?

I don't know a whole lot about football so I can't exactly recommend anything in that sense, but this should give you all the more reason to do a slow gradual bulk of a lb/week and see how much that affects your speed.

cool. i think that's what ill do then. not a master at controlling my bulks but ill get it as close as a i can to 1 lb/week! i've gained about 5 lb in the past 10 days so i kno to at least slow down right now haha!

That's awesome.

Do you track your calories? It's difficult to consistently gain a lb/week without tracking what you're consuming.

yep i use fitday. i think for the past 10 days i have gotten over 3750 a day with the exception of i think one day where i got like 3000. so do you think like 3250 a day would be a good amount or so? the link is in my sig if you want to help.

edit 1 : actually i think about 15 days ive been goin strong at it.

Yeah I was actually going to suggest droping your calories by about 500 from what you've been working with now. 3200-3300 should be good to work with for the week. Keep us updated with your weight.

alright sweet thanks keith. i made a sweet shake that i drink its got 950 cals and like 120 protein in it i think, so i can drink one of those whenever and their realy easy to down so i almost have no excuse for gettin under 3300ish. i will keep it updated here if you would like, and go all the way till my end of bulk. i also keep my journal updated daily.

Nothing like liquid calories if you have trouble reaching your caloric needs. May as well update it in your journal. I'll be sure to check in every once in a while to see the progress.

;) glad you made me realize that 200 may be a bit much haha. will up date weekly here and i do my journal every day so yeah. ill prob post end pics in this thread too then!

any other thoughts from anyone would be appreciated regarding my bulk or my physique or anything else!

update : weighed at 183.5 today. was at 182 a few days ago but went back up to 183.5 now.

186.5 friday. gaining steadily. getting a bit stronger, bench went from 225x7 to 225x9. squats and cleans havent really moved much, but their getting up there.

thats a huge-ass bulk man! you arent like gonna get to 190, cut to 185, up to 200, cut, etc? or just straight shot to 220?

Great progress man

my best peice of advice would be don't sacrifice your bodyfat for mass keep putting the weight on slow and solid.

If it ain't broken don't fix it

i use some routine that our coaches took from a random college. i dont know the name. i alter it but the main jist is 4 weeks high rep for conditioning/endurance, 4 weeks middle reps for everything, and then last 4 weeks low reps for strenght, max, rinse and repeat. no deadlift included but i try to do it in my spare time.

If your interested in preformance in any sport it all comes from olympic lifting

You learn to generate force from all parts of your body and literally can break someone in half, I would rather get tackled by a person with a 1000 bench then a 400 pound powerclean

indeed. i love oly lifts. my squat is below paralell, close stance and no pad so it's kind of olympic. and i do power cleans atleast once a week and full clean and jerk whenever i can but usually only like twice a month if that.

Dude fantastic back development. Your lat spread is off the chain. Keep up the good work and I'm with everyone else (it seems) when I say try and bulk nice and slow. Most of the successful guys I know (naturally muscular guys) have always had very slow bulks and rarely cut as they don't ever put on much fat. This will obviously also help with speed.

thank you very much tom. it means alot hearing i have a decent back. yep i am attempting to bulk nice and slow.

updates : upping my maintenance to about 3500 instead of 3200. i was maintaining and sometimes losing at 3200, so hopefully 3500 will give me a boost.

Jed, if you are getting stronger commensurate with your size gain then you won't lose much if any speed. Just bulk slowly. 200 lbs would not be too big at all for your height and frame, and certainly not for an O or D-Lineman. Shoot, anything less than 220-230 would have been tiny at my school for a lineman.

cool, thanks guido. yeah i know my weight is small but oddly me and my 190lb friend are the best 2 linemen on the team. i will definately keep going if nothing it going wrong, but once i start to lose too much speed then i'm slowin down big time. heck if i can get to 220 without losing speed then i'm totally game!

315 raw padless below paralell squat PR yesterday. (how i do all my squats)

only gonna weigh myself like twice a week instead of every day i lift cuz my weights pissing me off i just need to get focused on getting stronger and faster. will keep updating.
