im 168 lbs right now at 5'8 and i could prolly lose the extra 18 lbs but was wondering if its possible to like, say my usual intake for calories at 175 was 2650, what if i just take in like 1000-1300 calories from food, and burn about 200 more from cardio, it may not be very healthy, but will i still lose weight? ive been getting really bored eating lately and being hungry doesnt bother me. the only thing i can prolly do is eat a carb heavy meal before running (letting it digest first) so i have plenty of energy

you would lose good weight at that low of calories...starving yourself isnt the way to do it, your just asking to keep the flab without the lean..trust me i lost 100 pounds

Why do you want to lose weight at 168?

You would lose weight, but do you want to lose weight or lose fat? If you don't mind seeing your muscle go away and landing up being a skinny fat flabby person, go for it.

i think this is a great idea...
start a new forum for new-guys. they can go there and ask any questions about any topics. and the rest of us can skim through there every now and again and the questions that actually deserve a response..we supply one.

Isn't that the purpose of this forum?

The description says "Discuss anything nutritional and diet related here." New people are coming here looking for advice from people who've been here a long time...

There's big and then there's big and cut. Sometimes you gotta cut first then bulk. Like my fat ass.

Just like unreal said, you'll lose weight, but I think at least half of it would be muscle. In addition to that, your body will be in starvation mode because of the low calories. It will do anything it can do to store calories as fat. Not saying you'll be fat, just that you'll be losting more muscle than fat.

Ideally, it would be easier if you lifted some wieghts, did cardio and found a balance in your diet.

Welcome to the boards! :)

i lift decently heavy...before may i could barely do 12 reps of 8 lb dbs now i curl 35s...with good form too and bench 150 and i couldnt even bench the bar. i just figured its about time to lose the gut/ect.

Cardio would be an excellent addition along with your workout routine if you are looking to lose your gut. If fact I recommend at least 20 minutes of cardio every day if possible. This is not only good for losing unwanted fat but good also for your heart, brain, and many other things!!
