I've been taking my weight gainer for about two weeks now. i take it after my workouts in the morning, and i've noticed since i've started taking it that i have much less of an appetite for real food.

is this normal? and what can i do about it?

If you're taking weight gainer then one can assume you are trying to put on mass. Don't let your weight gainer become a meal replacement shake.

yes its normal. it has a boat load of calories. what brand are u taking? there is a big thread in the supplement section about waxy maize. u should look into it. The maltodextrose used in most gainers draws water to the stomach and causes a bloated distended feeling for alot of people. it kills my appetite. when i switched to waxy maize, no probs. check out the thread... warning its long.

I get big time bloated after weight gainers. I ordered some Waxy Maize after that thread. Sam knows what he's talking about, actually if you read that thread I believe he posted some stuff printed by Justin Harris (Troponin nutrition) and Justin does this nutrition stuff for a living.

Eating a lot in one setting and feeling full? Yep, that's normal. Try spreading the wieghtgainer into a few servings throughout the day.

i think this is what i'm going to have to do. i took advantage of gnc's buy one get one half off deal, topped with my gold card, and i got two 6 pound tubs of the weight gainer 2200, and two 13 pound tubs of the mass xxx. yes, i'm definitely trying to put on mass. no more of this being stuck at 150lbs BS

I think this is a misconception or misunderstanding a lot of people have.

A good weight gainer has calories. Calories consumed will reduce your appetite. That is just a fact.

Ok, now, it is easier to drink calories than it is to eat them. So, weight gainers make consuming extra calories EASIER. The key is that you have to use them to BUMP your caloric intake, not replace it.

For many young men gaining weight can be a struggle. They fail because they fail to realize they must train their stomach in much the same way they train their body. They have to expand their stomach by consuming an excess of foodstuffs such that they are uncomfortable. Weight gainers can be great for this as you can pound one after a big meal and use it for that extra expansion. Yes, you will be uncomfortable, but your body will adapt and you will find consuming the necessary number of calories becomes easier and easier.

One final point, a quality weight gainer should not be the cheapest protein slapped together with a bunch of sugar. Check out a product like MAXIMUS with a very high quality protein blend and ergogens like Microlactin(R). Adding a product like MAXIMUS to your daily intake of the right foods will help you to achieve your goals.

Very very good advice here. bulking sux... thats why i dont do it anymore! haha

another point to make in being able to cram down food, is a staedy blood sugar level. with that many shakes and sugars (maltos), ur blood sugar levels will look like a map of the Appilalacian Trail!

There is 120 carbs, 50 protein in the XXX shakes.... and 400 carbs and 50 grams of pro in the 2200!!!! 400 carbs man! are u drinking this all at once? no wonder u cant eat anything else!?

Take the 3 scoops for the 2200 in 3 seperate shakes. I suggest you take them one an hour before u train, one as soon as u get done training, and one either an hour later or for breakfast. Thats still 600 cals per shake (in water) and add 1 scoop plain whey pro to each one.

the rest of the day add mixed nuts to at least one meal. keep carbs in the 40g range, protein in the 40g range and fats about 30g each solid meal.

mixed nuts are easy to get a bunch of cals. 200 cals in a small handfull. you do all this and u will be getting about 4,000 cals a day which should be plenty for 150 pounder.

Thanks for the advice. However, I see a few problems. I have a rather hectic and ridiculously unorganized work schedule. Some days, I can start work at 1pm, other's will be at 3:30pm, and i'll usually work anywhere from 8pm to 1am some nights. I force myself to wake up at 10am every day to get in my work out before i go to work, because some, or a lot of days after work, I dont have nearly enough energy to get in a work out.

I'll have a small breakfast when I wake up, and i'll be in the gym by 11am. I have about 3/4 of a serving of the xxx immediately after my work out. then i'll have a meal before i go to work. i'll usually stop at a place like subway while working to get supper, because I dont have time to stop and go home to make something to eat, however the days that I get off earlier i'll snack until I get home and make something to eat. I'll have a second shake, which is about 1 scoop of the 2200 whenever i get home from work. if need be, i can start bringing a couple scoops of whatever in a plastic bag and stop and get a little bottle of milk from a gas station when i'm out and about working.

i dont think there's any way i could possibly take a full serving of 2200... ever. When i first started taking the weight gainer, I was taking about 1/5 of the 2200, mixed with a full serving of the xxx. as i've explained, i've spread it out a little so its not all in one shake. it's working much better, and i'm back to eating my meals. it was starting to bother me, cuz i love eating :)

i hope this stuff starts to show some results over the next couple/few months. my bigger (fat kinda big) friends hate me because when we go out to eat, i'll easily eat twice as much as them and they gain weight, but i dont gain a damn ounce.

try to get more small/moderate sized meals thoughout the day. i see you are busy like myself so use shakes, premade drinks, MRPs, bars in addition to REAL food to get the nutrition you need
