View Full Version : Dissappointed in EliteFTS nutrition article

I was reading the article below and was a little dissappointed in a few things mentioned. They may be true, but I think the differences are so small they are not worth the extra money.

1. Morning - take BCAAs in addition to whey in the morning for faster absorption.
2. Post workout - take Waxy Maize instead of a Malto or dextrose drink for faster insulin spikes and absorption (i dont' even think that one is true).

I'm not trying to discount the writer, who has accomplished a lot. I just thought that an EliteFTS article would have been reviewed a little more closely.

Reg whey in the morning and dextrose/whey post workout has done wonders for me over the last 4 months.

Am I off base here?

Dude, you need to read that article again, slowly this time. What you said isn't what he said exactly. The author is Justin Harris, and there aren't many people on the planet who can guide you any better as far as nutrition and training goes.
I'm not breaking your balls here, just read the article again and try and understand what he's saying.

no prob dude. thanks for calling me out on that. My wording was poor.

1. BCAAs are very anti-catabolic, but regular whey is very anti-catabolic too. They are absorbed at very similar rates, resulting in similar anti-catabolic results. I think a regular whey and water morning shake 30 min prior to breakfast would be just as affective.

2. He said the dextrose or malto shakes are slower to hit the small intestines (thus more slow to be absorbed into the bloodstream) than Waxy Maize. When I said absorbed, I meant total time to hit the small intestines and enter the bloodstream.

...not that the second part applies to me, as I start sipping my PW shake after I'm done with my main lifts (about 45 min before the end of the workout).

Maybe I need to take this article with a grain of salt, meaning that it is talking about things that will make that extra 1% difference. So for people that have platuead (spelling) and need that extra bump, this may help...

Am I getting his points correct this time?

I bolded what most people make the misconception with. Waxy maize may get pushed in to the intestine earlier but dextrose goes into to the blood stream faster. Waxy maize required digestion and dextrose does not.

Stick with dextrose.

good to know. On a side note, i've never felt bloated even when drinking my 145g of dextrose, 72 g protein, and 1/2 gallon water. ...but, of course, to each their own.
