View Full Version : Beef Jerky a Good Snack?

I've been eating beef jerky a lot lately as a snack. A lot of times I'll be at a convenience store and craving something small to snack on and I don't want to grab a candy bar. One day I was reading labels on stuff and I realized that beef jerky is basically just protein (and salt). Virtually now carbs or fat, and very few calories.

I think a bag of it is around:
250 cals
3.5 g fat
3g carbs
30g protein

The only bad thing is that one bag has about 60% of your RDA for sodium.

Yeh it's fine, it has a lot of sodium but aside from that...

It's also expensive.

True. It'd be cheaper and healthier to have an extra protein shake I guess.

You can make your own. It's not hard to do,I make 1-2 pounds at a time. Do a search on Google for directions. It's a lot cheaper + less sodium and no nitrates.

Jerky is a great snack... They have Wild Bill's hickory smoked jerky at the bar I work at. I love beef jerky!!

i ate 1/4lb of it in a sitting... then toilet for half an hour afterthat. do not eat in excess.

Besides the salt jerkey's pretty much the best snack out there. So damn good and so much protein. We usually get at least 2 deer a year and make up a lot of our own jerkey.

Beef jerkey nuggets are the best. Another vote for a good snack. It is what I usually grab at a convenient store if I want something...unless I'm going somewhere around girls because it makes your mouth taste nasty.

I try to avoid any jerky that is not homemade simpyl because it's so high in sodium among other things.

Homemade has my seal of approval though *drools*

That's what I eat 99% of the time, lol. Jack Links Peppered is the best!

I also recently tried some of the Jack Links Tender Cuts and they were really good too. They had Chicken Fajita Tender Cuts that were pretty awesome.
