I posted this over in the Bodybuilding forum:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------
So my background is that I have been weightlifting for over 6 years but never put any real effort into gaining weight. I am 5foot9 140 pounds. So pretty skinny but I have a decent build for my size.

Recently I decided to try and gain some weight & size but I am not seeing any results. I am currently doing the 5x5 routine (at Week 10) and while I have gained strength I haven't made any noticable change in size and I haven't gained any weight. My current diet has me eating ~3600 calories a day (288g protein, 360g carbs, 112g fat). Now that seems like a lot for someone my size and I am still not getting any results. I think I am already eating the maximum amount of protein per day that I would feel safe eating.

Does anyone have any suggestions? It is getting very frustrating to be working this hard and eating this much and not getting anything out of.

You're overcomplicating this. Eat more. 3600 isn't a lot for someone your size. Aim higher. Eat more of a variety. Some junk food wouldn't kill you.

Keep adding calories till you gain. Simple as that.

how consistent are you in your diet? Are you eating this 7 days a week? I agree that you could afford to eat "dirtier".

While on a bulk I got stuck in a rut like what you're explaining. I just kept upping my calories week after week until I noticed I gained.

It's simple that if you eat enough food, you have to gain weight. Sounds like you have a pretty fast metabolism, just keep upping the cals till you notice gains.

Everyone is right. Eat more. Eat fast food once a day. That'll get you started. Once you start gaining, drop the crap food and add in some better choices. The bottom line is, you have to eat some crap to get bigger. It won't kill you. I would recommend eating more carbs. You can eat as much protein as you want. It won't hurt you. But, carbs are your best friend when trying to gain weight.

Fat too. Eat more fat. Olive oil shots in your shakes.
