Some do, some don't. I've heard that Matt Kroczaleski has dropped up to 30lbs.

The Most I have Droped before a meet is 18lbs (180 down to 162) I started 24hrs out. Last year I dropped 12lbs in 16hrs... It was crappy, I will always drop 24hrs out now.

Also some federations you weigh in 24hours before the lifting starts whereas others (like that IPF that I compete in) has weigh in 2 hours before the start of lifting. This greatly affects how much you can drop without losing too much strength.

I've dropped around 15 in 24hrs and then gained 25 after weigh in's. To me the effectiveness of cutting weight really depends on how fast your body puts the water back on

I've dropped as much as 20 for strongman - haven't done it for PL. I may if I get closer to the 242's, but I'm feeling pretty strong where I'm at even if I'm a bit fluffy...shut up Will...

Any of you try to cut weight with same day weigh ins (like usapl weigh ins)?

no way, I'd be too weak. Most guys who I've known that tried that didn't do so well

Unless you have a pretty extreme rehydration method (IV), it's not going to end well.

I've dropped 14lbs for a bench only and set a 12.5kg PR.

For 3 lift the most I've dropped is about 11lbs. It's tough to get rehydrated for the squats but it's manageable. I know a couple guys that drop 15+ lbs for all their competitions (all CPU/IPF lifters).

I once dropped 17 to get into the 198s. I won't do that again without a really good reason. It was not good times.

agreed, I hate cutting weight.

There is a bit of danger for the 2hr weigh ins and cutting extreme amounts of weight. Pulling lots and lots of water out of your muscles and then going for max attempts can really predispose you to injury if you're not careful.

I will try to atleast lose a pound or two with in the 24hrs allowed. Then gain it all back and more by meet time.
