Against blue bands? so what you're saying is you had 800lbs loaded on the bar, and some bands on the end so you were squatting over 800 lbs at the top of the lift? I mean its redonk either way, I just want to make sure I'm picturing this correctly hehe.

Yea, basically the way we setup the bands that last set was 1000+ lbs at the top. So he had that on his back with no belt. I believe he was talking on the way up too, lol.

Good luck with the hip flexor John. I've been having trouble with mine for a little over a month now. Are you doing any other physical therapy for it besides your lifting? I've been pretty down for awhile not being able to train hard.

He squats over 1100 lbs. Those squats were done with blue bands which add something ~200 lbs of tension for someone John's height.

Hey John,

A while back I was on the EEB's forum and saw a meet application for June 30th and was planning on coming to do bench only as my first meet. I go on the forum a little over a week ago to get the details of the meet unfortunately see that it was hacked and defaced. So my two questions are...

Are you still hosting the meet?

If so, can you provide me with the meet application and location of where it will be held.

Thx a ton, and hopefully I'll see you June 30th.

I'd like to know too. I can hang on to a 700 rack pull no problem but when I put the straps up, I can't hold 600 off the floor. 600 without the straps up I can hold just fine.

Ryan, there won't be a meet this weekend. John is still trying to decide when to run one exactly(sometime this summer), but because we had to leave the facility we ran the last meet at, we didn't find a new place in time to still get the word out and prepare. We would definitely love to have you down and once John decides on a date, we will definitely get the word out and give you plenty of notice.

very so so week of training ..on tues i tried pulling with moderate sumo an things didnt go so well, could not really get the form down...then on thur did some speed bench and shut it down:thumbup: just felt beat up and real tired all week...

fri squats----super loose single ply fusion- no belt or wraps
all work done with blue bands put over the plates--man this tension was nuts

He says 700x1 like it was only 700x1... Ok lemme try and put it to you better... Single ply fusion suit 3 sizs too big no straps, no belt, and no wraps.

OHH and atleast 300lbs in tension at the top and half of that in the hole...

so really it was A Grand at top and 850 in the hole (and this one was deep) all with no belt to push on... :omg:
Deffinately one of the most impressive squats I have seen Bernor do....

day one of the t-shirt experiment:thumbup:

for the last couple of weeks i was messing around in a very loose single ply blast shirt..the shirt gave me very little support( i was able to touch with the bar without compromising form)..I started noticing though that my groove and handle with the shirt on was different then what i was really raw, so in my hair brain thinking i cut the back of a t-shirt today and wore it like a bench shirt:hello: i know its just a mental thing but i felt like i was able to load my lats better,,lol,,yeah i know:idea:

Well to be honest big guy I'm not a doc but to me it sounds like an AC joint? I'm not sure. The best thing you can do right now is stay on the ibuprofen and ice it alot. At the meet we'll make sure to take extra time warming up so that everything is all nice and loosened up.

If it is an AC joint, there really isn't anything to my knowledge that the doctor will do, besides rest. Try to not sleep on that side at night. Using a sling may help keep the pressure off it.

If it doesn't feel any better by Monday or Tuesday I'd probably head out to the doctor and have a look at it. Heal up John!

well guys i will not be going to the pro/am..If you have been following my training log than you know that about `16days ago i felt something pull/tear while deadlfting..I then took 6 days off and By the Grace of God the following week i did my last heavy squat and bench workout..After squattin i was in intense pain and the benchin a few days later didnt make matters any better...I then tried to pull last sat and got up to 635 and had to shut it down cause it felt like something was gonna tear..So i finally went to a dr today..actually he is a dr of physical therapy and a friend of Chris Taylors..he is very knowledgable and believes i might have a small tear in either my ac joint or my sub scapula..He told me doing the meet was out of the question along with any heavy training until it heals and rehab is done...So i will stay out of the gym for a few more days then head back and keep everything light..As of now it looks like i will not be able to compete to at least oct or nov..Thanks and God bless

John, I am terribly sorry to hear this brother. I know you busted your butt for this meet.

If it helps at all, IPA Worlds this fall might be a good meet to set your sights on.

Don't you have a cambered bar? Something to take the pressure off the joint.

a safety squat bar probably wouldn't help because it sits right on the joint

I second the squat cambered bar. You could hit some big numbers too seeing how strong your quads are. Use it for squats and good mornings and you should see very little drop in both regular squat and deadlift(provided you do grip work). Just my experience as I had similar issues last summer and did just this.

please keep Chris Taylor in your prayers,,He had a heart attack last night. As many of you know a lil over 2 years ago chris had a heart attack but made it through ok..he ended up losing over 50lbs and got his health in order but unforutnately last night he suffered another one. He is only 35 years old. I spoke to him and apparently this time their might be some damage to his heart..please pray for him..JESUS CAN HEAL
