View Full Version : Reason to maintain before a cut?

Pretty simple question: I'm probably going to start my first cut soon (pretty basic, ~500 cals below maintenance). Right now I'm bulking at ~500 above maintenance, and I was wondering if it would be wise to maintain weight for a week or 2 instead of jumping straight into the cut? I'm no scientist, but it just seems like a body might not react well to a sudden 1000 calorie drop. Is there any truth to this or am I just being paranoid?

Doing it slowly can never hurt.

You'll just be hungry, if your willpower is fine then you'll be fine. To make it more comfortable, do the 2 weeks of maintenance then start cutting. Slower is always preferable, as diet is a lifestyle not a couple month fad. In either case, maintain training because muscle mass (LBM) is much more nutritious to the body than fat and you want the body to hold on to as much muscle as possible while cutting.
