View Full Version : High blood pressure... at 20?

I went to the doctor for my physical and he said my blood pressure was a tiny bit high. This shocked me quite a bit. My question is, now that I have been categorized as "high risk", aside from the normal changes I should make to my diet what else should I do? BTW I am not overweight by any means.

Things I am starting to do:

1) Lower my sodium intake (this is a big one... university diets include a lot of salt)
2) Run more often (I dont do this enough)
3) Start taking fish oils (I get lazy sometimes lol)

I love eating eggs, should I prevent myself from eating too many yolks? I don't think my problem is due to cholesterol but rather high sodium. I have always read that if you have no problems eating many yolks is fine... but now I do have a problem.

What other things should I do? I have a feeling I covered it all.

I may have been eating unhealthy, but I am not stupid. When something is wrong I dont **** around.

PS Because of this problem I started my cut early... I assume I should stay away from ephedrine until things are back to normal?

It's only a tiny bit high but they categorized you as high risk? Mine's been high for years, but every time I go they say, oh...you're probably just nervous.

I have had high blood pressure since I was 17, i'm now 25, I am in good shape, and watch what I eat especially sodium and alchohol, and its still high. Even with my meds its still around 135/75. Its all about your genetics. I have had all the tests that have ruled out any other condition that could be causing it.

I could be wrong but I have never heard of dietary cholesteral effecting blood pressure, but you may want to watch your egg yolks if you do have cholesteral issues.

It very well could be that you were just a bit nervous in the Dr.s office. You need to get it measured multiple times and have high readings everytime to be diagnosed with hypertention. My systolic pressure will change 20 points between readings sometimes.

Let me know if you have any questions, i'd be happy to share some of my experiences or things I've learned over the years of dealing with this.

What was the actual reading. My fluctuates from 90/70 to 130/70. I go in for physicals every 6 months (job thing). Also, did someone take your blood pressure or was it done via a "machine"?

Do the cardio and cleanup the crap in your diet. Eggs are fine. They have nothing to do with BP. Get in better shape and you'll be fine. DOn't overthink this.

I see in your other thread that you are doing a recompisition. I think that alone will solve your problem. Besides, I'd be more worried about your LDL/HDL levels. I've had high blood pressure readings just from being nervous as well.

Have you checked your BP at home or away from the doctors office? You might be like me and have "white coat hypertension". A lot of people have elevated BP readings at the doctors office and they're fine when the BP is measured elsewhere.

I'd try getting some readings in a more relaxed and stress-free setting before worrying about it too much.

Good advice. We used to take BP several times a day in paramedic classes and you can really tell a difference from the beginning of class to the end just because of the stress. I used to take ephedra to mess with them, haha.

What was the reading anyway? 140/90 or so?

He didn't tell me the reading rather he just said it was a little high (I should have asked). I have a BP machine at home, when I get batteries I'm going to try it out. Thanks for the help guys!

I found lowering sodium did **** all. Lowering caffeine however made a huge difference.

175/131 became 128/71 simply for stopping my coffee intake

Fuzzy what are you doing drinking coffee at 15? Crazy Lebanese kids these days. Learn from the 15 year old Israelis and smoke hash :P\

And I dont drink that much coffee, but I do have caffeine pills.

Most countries around that area have a small shot of dark dark coffee every morning. I however would have 4+ with my parents.

I would get off the caffeine pills and see if that helps.

agreed.. at 21 my BP was 160/130 due to 1000+mg caffeine and 200+mg ephedrine daily..

but I looked good.. haha

eh, I did ALOT of cardio and lived in the gym. Once I came off the caff/eph my bp dropped back down to approx 115/70

yep.. wikid ****.. wouldn't recommend it.

I ran the max length cycle @ 21 days.. 14of which were 1000mg/day..

I felt like ass the entire time. I looked ****ing amazing though.. haha..

AGREED! ****ing amazing ****! I shed a good 15lbs bodyfat in those 21 days..

sleep was a bitch, had the a/c cranked down to 65 degrees F and still woke up every 3 hours in a puddle of sweat.. turned my sheets yellow.. lol..

sitting in my cubicle at work, I had 3 fans on me and still sweat like crazy..

my workouts sucked though. :(

Im on my second cycle, this is my third day of 1 gram and I want to die.

104.5kg to 97ish in 12 daysworth of cycling.

This stuff sounds incredible! I just looked it up. In a mere 12 days you cold lose that much weight? That **** sounds too good to be true. What you guys did in half a month would normally take 3 months!

Yes. The best part is the drug testing hasnt even heard of it and it's in WADA's constitution that if a substance were to be found that can not be defined as an illicit substance and banned then there is a 1 year amnesty.

Cycle 1: 104.5kg to 99.8kg in 3 days of heavy doses (800/800/1000mg)

Cycle 2: 100.1 to 97ish in 3 days of heavy doses (800/1000/1000mg)

(heavy doses is defined as the level when things get very hot!)

I said **** it and ran one 21 day cycle. Man that was a bitch. I was running Test Prop, T3 and Clen at the same time.

I had to triple my daily vitamins, ALA, and water intake to stay safe. Best thing about it is that I ate EVERYTHING, 5000+ kcals, and still dropped 15-20lbs bodyfat. I can't remember exactly, it was so long ago. I went from roughly 260-240. Workouts sucked ass, sleep sucked ass, life sucked ass. But **** I dropped down to 12% bodyfat (from 17-18%) while eating pizza and cheesburgers.

lol.. hard stuff though, I definately would never do it again.

Depends on the dosage.. 200mg, 400mg and 600mg isn't too bad. 800-1000mg is where it gets really difficult. How's your discipline? I would have seen way better results if I could have actually maintained my diet instead of eating everything in sight. The **** made me so hungry.

Nah, cycle 1 was a feeler, I will continue 1000mg for 5-7 more days.

I dotn take any vits except C, and my water intake isover 2 gallons.

Its hard man, it feels like you are constantly doing cardio, even when at rest. However, if your not a side effect junkie (I get a kick out of them) then cycling 400-600 would see you lose weight alot faster/
