My dad has this great head of hair (hes 50), this thick, luscious mane (lol). Lucky for me I got some genes from my mom's side of the family. The guys get a receding hairline, like at the sides making a widows peak. I like to joke and kid about it cause it makes me feel better. I was pissed at first, but now I don't really care. I just figure if it decides to get real bad (my uncles are in their 40's and its not bad at all) where I have to try to hide it I'll just rock the Vin Diesel or the Jeff Bridges from Iron Man.

I started balding at 18. By 21 I couldn't hide it anymore. By 24 I was buzzing it, and 2 years ago (at 26) I started shaving it clean once every 5-7 days.
Honestly, if my hair suddenly reappeared, I would probably still shave it. It's great.
The only downside is that I have to put lotion on my head most days, and it sunburns in just a few minutes of exposure without sunscreen. But, I'm pretty fair-skinned.

I've been shaving since 18. It started receding at the age of 15! I was really angry about it for a while, wore a hat all the time etc. But I've been rocking the clean shaven look for a while now. It's not bad. You're right mrelwooddowd, having fair skin and a bald head is not a great combination. It burns very easily.

I started to lose it around 18 too. It's not horrible now (28), it's not anything I can hide, but it's only in the front. I don't really care, I buzz it sometimes, right now I'm just letting it grow. I shaved it clean once, did not like it. I prefer the one or two guard look, but I have a few freckles on my head, that's the only thing I really don't like. If it weren't for the freckles, I would always have it buzzed short, I prefer to have my short anyway. If my suddenly grew back, I would be really happy and still cut it short the majority of the time.

My dad has a pretty good head of hair, with a little bit of a bald spot. My mom's hair is thick, and long. I take more after my mom. I'll get a haircut, and within 2 weeks my hair will grow back. The front/ top of my hair is especially thick. It's weird that my mom's brother is completely bald.

Ahh I'm definitely receding at the temples, 23 years old... I can't lose my hair; I'd look so bad bald. I look bad enough as it is. My hair is pretty thin and I try to hide the receding temples. I'd give anything for a nice, thick head of hair that I could easily style. :(

If your going bald I think its always better to just bic the ol' head.. I hate when people refuse to shave it

Mine started receding like freshman year and then stopped my senior year. My uncle said he did the same thing. From when he was a junior in high school up until his sophomore year in college. I used to wake up with hair on my pillow...I was kinda freaked out. My uncle said his would look hairy. lol. Luckily I think I have a decently shaped head. Plus I actually like the look, I'm just too scared to try it out.

My dad's dad still has a full head of hair and he's in his mid to late 70s I believe. My dad as well. My mom's dad was completely bald on top when he was my age (25), started balding at around 18.
I got lucky and got my dad's genes. I have a couple gray hairs on my head from the past few years of stress, which are even more indicative that I have my dad's hair genes.
My brother, I think, may not be so lucky. He was basically born with a receding hairline, and as far as I know, it hasn't ever moved further, but he has more characteristics from my mom's side, so he may be balding soon.
My fiancee always tells me if I start to go bald, I'm getting rogaine or transplants or hormone replacement therapy to get my hair back.

My brother, I think, may not be so lucky. He was basically born with a receding hairline, and as far as I know, it hasn't ever moved further......Same situation with me. Receding hairline when I was 18.....pretty much unchanged now at 33. I did the head shave (one guard) for St. Baldricks this year. I actually liked the buzzed hair look. When my receding hairline does finally go for real, I'll be sporting the buzz full time.

I have a really thick head of hair. I don't think I'll go bald anytime soon. I've had gray or silver hairs since I was a teenager though. They're slowly multiplying.
If I do go bald I hope it's from the front, not from the back. A bald spot looks so much worse than going bald from just above the temples.

My dad and his brothers are bald and my mom's dad is bald too. So yeah I'm screwed. I'm 20 now so hopefully I last until like early 30's.

My dad and older brother use this stuff called "grecian formula". i don't know if they use it for grey or for baldness, but they're always talking about how great it works.

i kept my head shaved all the way when i was in high school and my firsts couple years in the military. i did it in high school cuz it was different. then so many guys shave their heads in the military i wanted to look different so i started growing it out about as long as i could without physically getting in trouble. on my first deployment i actually grew out chops for a while, of course that didnt last though. i recently shaved it again but i dont like it so the fro's comin back out

It would suck if I ever went bald since I have little bumps on my scalp in several places. Thankfully that most likely won't ever happen since all the men in my family have all their hair. None have ever gone bald or even had receding hairlines, really.

Man, I started losin it when I was 19. When I finally admitted it to myself, I stayed inside all day and cried like a kid whose dog just got run over by a car. Hah.
That was 6 years ago, and it's not TERRIBLE now. I mean, it's definitely noticeable, but it's only in the front, and I think if you keep it cropped short (be that #1 or buzz or whatever floats your boat) you'll look fine. Yeah, you'll never have that long Rafa Nadal hair, but ya make do with what you've got, huh?
Hell, that's one of the proximate causes that got me into lifting... I figured I can either be a bald skinny guy or a bald buff guy. 30 lbs later, I'm getting there... haha.
Also, I heard this once and I got a kick out of it - "Balding is a condition. Bald is a choice." For me, it's "cropped short is a choice", but you get the drift.
But you can damn well bet the second they perfect some viagra-type pill to grow some flowing locks I'll be Fabio-ing that piece before you know it ;)

Good to hear these posts... my hair did basically a 180 in the last 8 years. In high school, at age 15, 16 I had red hair that grew so thick that
it would tend to dread up on me. I kept it pretty long, cuz if it was short it would look all wild. As I hit 20, the hair became manageable, thinned out a little,
and turned brown. Between ages 21 and 25 (which I am now) I was under a lot of stress with work, collage, etc., so the stress factor I guess plays a part.
Nowadays, it's obvious to anyone that I'm going bald, hairline is not so bad, but it's thinned to almost nothing on top! It's a weird look right now because the rest of my hair is still fairly thick. Just gotta start cuttin it short, was feeling upset about a year ago, but now I'm ready to embrace, baby!
