Well I had my first lesson yesterday. I can already feel the advice she has given me help. I am starting to use my stomach more in singing (as weird as it is). I can feel the difference but still need work. I also can now sing to the E above middle C (barely). My lowest is 2 Ds lower than middle C.

Now for the question... I can sing songs but it sounds like absolute crap. I can somewhat hit the notes but the quality is devastating. I can't bare to hear myself sing but I know I have to if I want to get better.

So how do I make my singing sound good aside from hitting the note? I know it is a stupid question. If a person playing guitar were to ask me this I would say practice and be confident with what you do. Is this the same?

Maybe your tone of voice is just naturally bad. I dunno. Stick with the teaching and ask her for an honest opinion of your potential.
