...for anything. not even my clean and jerk. is this really that bad? and will i add some weight to my lifts if i use the hook grip (my pulling lifts)?

I do hook on all deadlift over 450 and it is a real good way to hold the bar for bicept health.

I find the hook only works when you pull hard on heavy loads, as it locks you thumb in real tight.

hook grip certainly helps, and with a strong grip comming off the floor for oly lifts it will allow you to accelerate harder (especialy form the second pull) without dropping the bar or losing momentum through loosened grip.

if it feels weird, youll get used to it
