Gonna start posting my training here again since I am actually somewhat consistent again I will post from a few workouts back..

6/14/08

Crazzzzzzzzzzy workout I had to squat and bench and got it all done in 3 hrs....

Squats,
Full gear straps down
we used a green choked and a band that is equal to or a bit stronger then a blue and I put that band on out side of plates so as the bar went up in weight, the bands were stretched further I guess it to be round 375-400 in tension at top for the last sets.
145x1,235x1,325x1,415x1,505x1 then added wraps and went 595x1
Wow this was heavy I almost wusssed out and racked it but got it and got a little air and went down and finally hit my regular groove and I even dipped it to parallel so after 5-6 weeks of crappy squat workouts I finally get my groove back and hit a good rep.. Thank God !!!!!!!!!

Shirt Bench,
went with bands and a 2 board here
Bands under the bench were a set of blues and 2 sets of greens so I approximate to be round 250 at lockout.

warmed up raw
135,225,315, added all the bands and my shirt.
320+bandsx1,410+bandsx1,500+bandsx1, then 590+bandsx1
so if you do the math at lockout today I handled nearly 1K in the squat and about 840 in the bench all within 3 hrs wooooohoooo can somebody Give God some praise here ... No doubt my training is sponsored by Jesus .....

Dead day

Conv Deads,
Fusion suit straps up
245x3x2, 445x3x2, 535x1, workset 600x3 (coulda hit 5)

Volume triples
445x 3 x 5 sets

Dimmel deads
conv 245x20
sumo 245x18 (much much harder then conv)
(wow my lower back has never felt this much pain)

Off Topic Some highlights from today

Today marks the 2 yr anniversary of my heart attack back in 2006. I should have been gone, 75% of men under the age of 50 who have attacks are usually fatal. I know God interceded for me and has a plan for my life. I have been through alot of crummy stuff lately and alot of things trying to knock me down but today Here I am I am training with weights I never though were possible, I am healthy, And today after 2+ yrs of school I got a great Job offer. How Great is Our God? Is there an end to his Love? No !!!!! WE cant even concieve the depths of It.

Thank You Jesus for giving me a new day every day ....

Shirt bench

went out east tonite.

My groove felt off all night, My left shoulder was acting up a bit and my lower back is still screaming from wednesdays workoutso my arch was not as high,

Raw 95x15,135x10,225x10, 315x1,
Added shirt 405x1,495x1,585x1,700x1,765x1 (less than a half inch from touching)
Last rep was real slow and deliberate, not used to trying to touch so I was tentative and had no pop off the bottom.
Gotta get me a loose super phenom so I can do some reps from the belly and get a groove locked in..

Felt real banged up and was gonna sit this week out but since I havent really had any good consistency with my form and grove I decided to do something a bit off the beaten path. Jason had an old Bernor canvas suit from when John weighed in the 350's. I slipped into it and immediately put the straps up so it wouldn't fall right off me.

So my idea is to wear the suit so it gives me a similar groove to my full gear form and groove but with very little to no restriction. I would naturally rather go raw or a light brief but it never gives me the same groove as wearing a canvas and I feel like it just doesn't transfer over to my meet squat.

All that being said here is what I did
Huge suit straps up no wraps
235x3,325x3,415x3,505x1, added belt 600x1 put that baby 3 inches below and grinded it up... CT likes this alot I deffinately think this can help put a better transfer into a killer tight gear setup then just training raw.

Raw Pause sqt walked out,
235x3,325x3,415x3

Cable Pull through standing on 2 benches,
150x20x2

Fun workout Glen came down and benched 915 to a 2 board 2nd workout back in a shirt just crazy.....

suit on
Conv deads standing on JS platform using minnis

135x1x5,225x1x3,315x1x3,405x1x3

Stopped there and shut it down.
Im not sure if its the recent weight gain or I am burnt out but The 405 with bands shouldnt be a gut buster for me since my pr was 495. I may start taking off the thrid week of deads no matter what..

Squats
Full Gear straps down

Tonite Got a idea from my buddy Brookman I used blue bands but I looped them over the 100lb plates instead of the collar of the bar. This made the tension go from 180 to (I estimate) somewhere between 250-300 lbs at top.

255x1,345x1, added bands 345+BBx1, 435+BBx1, 525+BBx1, 615+BBx1, then last set 705+BBx1 Got the last one to about paralell I figure at top it had to 950-1000 and at parallel somewhere round 825 which is more weight I have had on my back since feb.

video of the last set

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l4P0W129d5I

I tried my best before the heavy sets tonite to get myself amped up but I just couldnt get any fire going. I believe God was trying teach me how to lean on Him more, that when I finally surrender all of me its when He can work miracles, and in reality this holds true in every situation not just when facing a Loaded squat bar.

It is always an amazing experience when I train with John Bernor, not just in weight being obliterated but just watching what God can do with a humble man. Over the past 6 yrs I have personally watched God do amazing things in John's life both on and off the lifting platform. I can't wait till I get to lift along side him in Cinci on aug 24th..

Both your guys testimonies are very encouraging to me. Thanks for being so open!

On a side note though, just be careful with that much band tension. I've been noticing several severe accidents recently when working with super tension like that. Some of them have been at our gym (Westside). It seems that with tons of pressure pulling down on you like that it can be much more harmful on the knees and hips. What I did like though was you did it straps down so the bar weight wasn't getting too high, that was a good idea!

Travis,
Thanks for the warning, I will tread cautiously. Question though these injuries were they done while free squatting or box squatting?
I generally try to figure my top end at a maxmium to be around 100 lbs over my pr. So I will attempt to get near 1025-1050 with top end weight and tension. I think Next time I will do 3 singles with my top end work and keep the weight within reason..
Thanks again for the input..

I believe they were don free squatting. I'm just passing along what I've noticed. The bar weight is fine, but it just seems that with TONS (in excess of 400lbs) of band tension, crap is happening waaaay to fast. Just kills me to see top notch lifters get injured like that.

Think of it this way, bands will bring out your flaws in your technique. The higher the band tension, the more flawless you must be. Flaws will be brought out and exploited by the heavy heavy band tension in a very big hurry.

So its not so much the total weight that is the problem, its the large amounts of band tension that cause the problem.

Keep up the good work brother!

Didnt train much all week and barely got today's workout in last minute but it was a DOOSY

Squats
Full gear
255x3,345x1,435x1,525x1,615x1, added straps up loose and loose wrap 705x1 2 inches above,805x1 just above paralell, Last set 915x1, 10 lbs less then my alltime pr. I think it just about broke but not where I really want it. Man this suit is prolly the tightest suit I ever wore.. Here's the video
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ez591sYTi7U

Ok today was a good step forward for me. It's been a long time since I worse straps and I am gonna have to get used to breathing with them on cause I mean I really only came up that fast cause I was almost out of air :).
Bernor prolly knows me better then my own wife (no not like that yu freaks) He made some good points today with getting my head on right. I really need to start trusting God more. He has blessed me with so much, and I never have enough faith in myself to go after the weights I should. Over the next 6 weeks I really need to start exercising my faith,

Jesus said in Matthew 17:20

I tell you the truth, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there' and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you."

Hey whats up guys,
I havent trained since last monday, started a new job with new hours and then this weekend we had a youth rally so I couldnt get any heavy days in last week. Today I just hit some bench assist and threw in some lats and such since I havent done any direct back work in like 2 weeks...

Vbar pulldowns to upper chest elbows flared out not tucked into side.
220x12x4

DB flat bench,
90x20x4 sets

Rev fly machine,
75x15x4

Leaning db side raises,
25x15x4

DB alt curls,
35x12x5

Narrow over hand pulldowns to top of head,
180x12x4

All done, I was getting a crazy muscle pump and all of a sudden I was fighting back the urge to rub baby oil all over myself so I had to shut it down before it got ugly.

Andrew I use a facial cleanser everyday as well as body gel and a luffah,

Ok now for the deadlift workout

Its been like 2 or more weeks since I have pulled and I really needed to get something started again cause the meet is approachin quickly.

I have decided I need to get back to pulling some straight legged deads.
These always seem to help out my pull as well as my squat.

Straight leg deads,
Raw 140x10, 235x3, 330x1, 420x1, added belt 515x1

then speed straight leg 380x3x5 sets

then conv speed sets
330x3x5 sets

Then I did side steps in a full squat position 20 steps x 3 to the right and to the left

Then I did some one leg box squats to an above parallel box,
Bodyweight 10 reps each leg x 5 sets

I am trying to work my glutes in more and these last 2 exercises as weak as they sound really hit me. I was all shakey and unstable on my feet after this
Hey maybe It might help me pull more weight one day.

Squat day
7/19/08

Trained at Shawnas with a big crew today.
Things were going good untill I got to 9 plates I tried 4 times to unrack 865 and get set to squat it but each time I felt like it was either gonna roll off my back or I was way off centered like the left side was 90 lbs heavier then the right. Man I was so frustrated, since last squat workout I annihilated 915. I was supposed to bench after squatting but I was in such a bad frame of mind I just shut it down.. What the heck is going on here????
Got home and was very displeased with myself but I sat down and heard a noise from the other room. It was my little Kaitlyn singing a song from the TV, She was so adorable singing and dancing around it almost brought me to tears. Thats when it hit me, who freakin cares about bad workouts, in the sceme of life it really don't mean crap when compared to what really matters to you.
Attached is a picture of my little sweetie pie from today.

Hey guys whats goin on...

Well yet another crummy week of training. I was gonna skip this and just not post but felt convicted to post it anyways.
This week I didn't train my bench assist and missed a deadlift workout (new work schedule is screwing up my ability to train) So friday night after working on my feet all day I drove out east to train with Bernor and Chase and the crew.. Put my briefs on and knew it was gonna be a challenge these things are way loose now... Then got the canvas on and it was super tight on my upper thighs but loose as anything in the hips... Uhhgggggggg....
So worked up some singles and hit a decent 725 went to another plate (815) got some wraps on and just couldnt unrack it well then stepped out and re set and tried it again, also got out wierd and rounded but went with it ayways got in the hole came up and lost it, got stuck forward and couldnt get it up. Ok now I am just disgusted I have maybe 3 workouts before the meet in cinci and waht was looking well a month ago has gone to the crapper.
Saturday I tried to shirt bench,
Put my loose shirt on so I could try and hit some reps. Well the onely thing i think I shoulda did different here was use a board or 2 cause I am insane weak in my shoulders and going all the way down to touch with a loose shirt was hard on my crappy joints. orked up to a triple with 500 then took a single with 605 OUCH .....

OK so now I know it looks like I am posting in a way to sound well negative. I felt convicted to post for the main fact that God wants to use even this silly post for his Glory. God has called me to do this meet and like it or not crappy workouts or not I am going. I will not shy away from his will for me. When he tells me to go I GO. I may bomb I may set all new world records but it don't matter I am going to literally lift my heart out. Putting everything I am out there for him to use. Jesus said "Because you have so little faith. I tell you the truth, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there' and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you."

Next week I am going back to band work and continuing with it for each workout then stripping bands and going to openers each workout so they become solid again.

Gotta do my end so I have to buckle down and get some consistency again.

Deads 7/29/08

Well i have to start somewhere......
Due to work schedule and lack of training partners I am now stuck deadlifting at Bev's gym where the 45lb plates are on average 2lbs heavy and they are 3/4 inch shorter in height. Not only that the bar is a stiff old olympic bar not a nice springy dead bar... But I have to do something.

Suit on and just trying to get a feel for my form again,
135x5,225x3,315x2,405x1,500x5 singles or was it 525????
I know its light but that first single was real slow then once i got to the 5th one i was flying like the old me.. It coulda also been cause it was 6 am too:drooling:

Hit some Pulldowns and rows then some lower back hypers and even abs.
after that... On sat I will prolly hit some stiff legged deads as well after We squat. Hopin to bench as well since I really have no other day and no,one to bench with.

All in all it was a positive direction, for once I didnt leave the gym feeling beaten like I have the last 2 weeks..

And frankly I need to burn calories and drop some weight for the meet so I figured to give it a shot and see how or if it affects my heavier stuff on saturday. Im gonna jam down some ETS which should help speed the recovery process as well...

Heavy Squat and Bench

Bench,
Well I haven't had my tight shirt on in 3-4 weeks and the meet is like tomorow so I thought I should get some weight down to touch. Went for my generic opener.
Warmed up raw wanted to see how the shoulder was after the cort shot I got on wednesday..
95x15,135x10,185x5,225x3,315x1 ADD shirt 405x1,495x1,585x1, then went to 705 got it to touch and popped it up smooth. Had to keep the shirt pulled up on the arms to get the weight to touch. Next week I will pull it down and try and hit a little more.

Squats,
Wore a looser suit and took my breifs in at the hips. If you have been reading my log you would know that the last few weeks my training has been a bit off to say the least. Part of it is because my gear isn't dialed in right and because I have been weak in faith, Its like I cant seem to get my head on straight. Here's how it went
255x1,455x1 put up straps from here out to get used to them,545x1,635x1,725x1,then finally 815x1, actually broke paralell with this and felt strong.
Last week couldn't even get that weight out of the rack without feeling like I was gonna black out.

I hit both openers strong woohoo.
Praise God

Ok after all that, I feel much better about not screwing up and looking like a knucklehead at the meet. Maybe thats my problem, My ego may be getting in the way here...

Squat and Shirt bench,

Ok got out east and I just wasn't in the mood to train, I had like no sleep night before and was already a bit tired from the long car ride.

SO I figured in the last 6 weeks I have squatted more then I have benched so I had to atleast try to put in some shirt bench training.

Shirt bench,
Raw
95x15,135x5,185x3,225x3,275x1,315x1
Shirt on
405x1,495x1,added 1 and a half board it's about 2 inches thick.
585x1,workset 675x2 coulda hit 3 reps. Was about to pack it in when I felt like I should try a heavy single as well so I took a shot at 765 and hit it pretty strong. I am really in a state of shock because I had no drive no intensity and felt like I was ready to take a nap the whole time. I love that when I come in with no big goals of hitting a big weight Jesus pushes me through and I hit crazy stuff.

Posted: Tue Aug 26, 2008 1:40 pm Post subject: Pro Am meet report

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I was so blessed to be able to spend time with some good friends this weekend.I got to meet a whole bunch of new friends (Rob Luyando,Shawn Frankl,Travis Bell, Chris Mason to name a few), and speak with some guys who I havent seen in 3 yrs.(Mike Wolfe, Shawn Nutter,Jim Grandick,Rick Hussey,Bob Youngs,Bob Coe) and a whole bunch more. This meet was so much more then competition for me. In the past when I would attend such high level competitions I would always get wrapped up into the heat of whos who and thats when I would put up a wall of pride and my ego would go before me. This usually ends with me being a jackass and leaving angry about how I lifted. But not on Sunday, for some reason God kept my ego in check and I was at peace the whole time. I was coverd completely by His grace. I think it was in part because my good friends were praying for me at the meet and at home and in part because I got to spend all my time with Mike and Blaine who really helped me to keep my mind right, Especially while I was cutting all the water weight.

As for the lifting
I lost some inches after cutting down to 242 and coming back up I was 255 but my squat suit and briefs fit good at 258-260 so I had a little less in the squat than I was hoping for but no biggie..

Opener squat was pretty easy took 805 and sat it back, got to paralell and popped it down and up. Felt easy but I knew I got down to easy. So went to 855. It was same as opener but a little slower. I thought I had a shot at 900 so took 905 on third. This was oddly the best feeling attempt, I finally got my straps right and belt tight enuff and Mike wrapped my knees good. Took it down hit depth came up but got stuck 3/4 of the way up and failed. Thats what you get for not training with bands for 6 weeks. Prasie God I was in the meet and having fun. On to benching...

Opener bench 705
Had to borrow Jim Grandick's handoff man.(who just happend to have the same last name as me weird....) It was a little different then how I was used to but I made due got the bar and thats when I relaized that the forza bench on the platform had a bench pad that was not the original style pad that forza has it was way too squishy but I took the bar settled and brought it down. Heard a press command and pressed it up slow and smooth to lockout. On the second attempt I was blessed to have Rob luyando to help as a side handoff man got the bar alittle better and came right into the groove. Heard the press and just like that it, came up same as the opener, this was a 5 lb 242 bench pr. Praise God.. Onto the third I decided it was time to set my sleeves to gangsta tight. Took 750 on third and it was a whole different lift, I brought it down touched and slammed it to the lockout. I shoulda opened with this and had my sleeves like this the whole time. I deffinately had 800+ in me, Oh well Praise God, Got another PR, next time I will go all out.

Deads
UHHHH I hate pulling.
Opener 605 went up easy, then took 650 to hit 2255 total so I could beat my PR by 5 lbs. I got to the bar and was pretty much on vapors and my quads were cramping from previous lift, Bent down grabbed it and ripped it up Praise God.. Then I was like well I dont want to go 700 and miss again so lets just make a bigger total so I took 680. Got to the bar and remembered just thinking just one more for Jesus, Just one more for Jesus. Grabbed it good, dropped my hips and pulled it with everything I had left, it started to move and all of a sudden it was locked out.
Man I think I just mighta had 700 in me. Oh well Praise God I made a PR total and made it through the meet without injury.

A quick note of praise to the Judges who kept this meet real the whole weekend these guys served their brothers through all the attemtps from fri-sunday John Bott and Bob Youngs did a spectacular job. Also the helpers and spotters and directors from the powerstation gym who went above and beyond for the lifters to organize and run a great meet that will go down as a historical day for our sport.

Great job CT. I'm proud of you buddy! It just goes to show you, even with a messed up training cycle, CT ALWAYS gets it right on the platform. Maybe one day I can learn that from you.

Trained out east at EEB on friday night.
It's been a long while since I got under a bar with more then 3 plates on it so I had the itch and had to get back in the game. I want to go at it with some volume since I haven't done anything in a while and I want to widen my stance a bit so I am gonna start to work up a short periodized program alla Coan style.
Ofcourse you know I dont roll completely RAW so I wore a pair of Loose and I mean Loose pair of predator briefs on.

Wide stance squats,
145x10,235x5,325x5,415x5, then workset 505x5
was gonna pack it in but a good song came on the radio and I felt God pull on my heart to take a shot at a heavy single as well. I told D' to put 7 plates on the bar. 685x1 deep and a grinder but I got up with it. It felt great to strain again.

The guys were trying to install a new bench pad and I needed to help cause Bernor can't do mechanical things to well so when we finnished bolting it on I gave it a test drive. LOOOOSE phenom shirt to a 2 board.
225x3,315x3,405x3,495x1,495x1,585x1 man this weight felt extremely heavy in my hands. I will have to start implementing the CT style of top end training real soon before I grow a HYMAN.
10/18/08
Saturday morn I woke up and had to train one of my stronger clients and decided I would train with him.
Squats
(yeah I know I just trained my squat nearly 10 hrs ago but why not)
Walked out raw no belt and narrow stance.
135x5,225x5,315x5,405x3 all sets ass to the ground deep.
LPD
225x12x4
Cable Flys
160x20x4
Scarecrows
25x10x3
Db side raises
20x15x4
Close grip pushups supersetted with Db curls
BWx15----25x12----x 4 sets
Tri pressdowns
120x15x4
Weighted abs on stab ball,
25x3x15

Felt good to get some good work in especially out east with the fellas.
