I'm 23 and hadn't really drunk anything until a couple weeks ago where I got the idea that I should just start trying stuff. People always seem to be happier while drunk and have interesting stories. So why not me? Maybe it'd help ease the misery and loneliness.

Well it seems to! It just seems to make everything feel better.

However, my dad is kind of an alcoholic (at least I think so). What are the chances it was passed on to me? I only drink alone (not necessarily by choice; I'm just a loner), and I drink for the sole purpose to make me feel better. I've already started wanting it more and more. I so badly wish I could drink right now, but it's only 8:30am. :[

I won't drink on days I've worked out though, and certainly not on nights before work. :drooling:

Does anyone have any recommendations for a beginner on things I could try that taste good? Preferably things with high alcohol content. So far I've just tried buying mix stuff (14% alcohol volume) and I've tried some Mikes (good) and some beer (tastes horrible). It's like a whole new world!

to the OP...drinking by yourself is a good way to become an alcoholic. Try to keep it social.

I agree 100%

Several signs your an alcoholic

1. You drink alone (when i say drink alone I mean getting drunk)
2. You drink soley to make yourself happy
3. You got it in your blood

Chances are you will become an alcoholic at this point, I'd suggest watching out big time. Alcoholics run in my faimly too, and I understand this therefore I watch what I drink and how often.

No worried about being an alcoholic; I have enough self control! Can't really get out more either...

Stuff like Jack Daniels and vodka something you'd have to get at a liquor store, right? At least here it is I think.

I work with beer so I have a few ideas of what to try. A lot of those wine coolers look like they'd taste real good. P:

Ugh, wine coolers taste like ****.

They have these energy drinks with alcohol in them which are really good. Tilts, sparx, etc.

This is great people giving him drink mixing ideas when he needs to get away from alcohol.

CleverName, I'd be seriously worried if you get happy from drinking by yourself. And if you are craving it at 8:30am is a telling sign that
you're getting addicted. And you don't choose to become an alcoholic, you just will gradually slip into it. Just saying take it seriously
and if you feel bad why don't you go running or something? Exhausting exercise is very good vs. depression or feeling down or whatever.

If you have time to drink by yourself at home, you probably have time to get out more. Just sayin'.

Do you think that most people who become alcoholics were worried about becoming alcoholics when they first start drinking? Uh... no. In fact, most hardcore alcoholics STILL think this way, even after years and years of being an alcoholic. And unfortunately, it's not a thing you can convince a person to believe about himself.

If you're so into drinking immediately after you had your first drink ever, and are craving it at 8:30AM -- you should, absolutely, 100% be concerned about alcoholism. Especially when you're using to kill emotional pain. Alone.

Watch out, dude!

Alcoholism is defined by the consequences of your drinking, not really the amount/environment when you drink. If this guy starts missing work, withdrawing from family/friends (even more so than he already does, I guess), etc, etc then there's a problem.

Jager Bombs! I ****** shower in that ****!

Clever- chill out bro. If you want to drink, go out with friends. If you don't have friends, go to a bar and make some. Drinking can help ease social tension if you are shy, but it won't fix your insecurities. Be smart and be careful.

Why drink alone when you can get drunk and spit your A-game at chicks? Might as well put in work while you're faded!

This sounds like an absolutely horrible idea and you should know better at 23. If you're going to use a crutch, get one that isn't already half broken and is going to let you fall.

Alcoholism is VERY inheritable from your parents. If you're having cravings at 8:30am, that is a very bad sign. Get away from that stuff right now. Justifying your drinking is also a sign of dependency. Statements like "don't worry I can stop if I wanted to, I just don't want to" are pretty typical for people dependent on alcohol.

Um did you just recommend a certain type of alcoholic drink and then subsequently tell us alcohol is what caused your father's death? I hope not...

Nonsence, I drink alone to feel good and I'm not an alcoholic. You're no less likely to become alcoholic drinking with other people, it doesn't work like that. That's just something people say to justify going out getting smashed every night, it's ok apparently if they do it with friends.

No, I think what their getting at is if your out drinking with friends it's generally just going to be on nights/weekends, if you get big into drinking by yourself it can turn into all day every day in a hurry.

Having sex makes me feel better, I don't really care too much when I'm drunk as to think about whether I'm happy, mad or sad. I just kind of have a good time dancing, playing and talking to the ladies.
