Also, what are the best times to take in carbs to maximize my workout and how much? thanks.

I'll respond to this, since I know the answer for me personally. I prefer to eat 2-3 cups of oatmeal (2-3 cups dry, which is about 150g of carbs) from 2-3 hours before I workout. I'll drink 2-3 liters of water after the oatmeal. Then, during my workout I'll sip on 100-150g of dextrose mixed with protein powder. I attribute being able to gain strength on a cut to this setup.

if you are trying to pack on some muscle I would say to at least keep your carbs ~100g +

Everyone is different, find out what works for you as far as type of carbs, amounts, and how much time before you workout before you feel energy from the previous meal.
