Hey all - Chris Rodgers pointed me over here and it looks like a cool place. My name is Andrew Yerrakadu, and I trained with CR, CT, John Bernor, Chase Trusnovic, Rob Spitzner (all members here) and assorted other freaks and misfits with East End Barbell for years. Recently moved down to Tampa and currently training with Tony Conyers and crew (southern freaks). I've been lifting competitively since 1987, and have competed nationally and internationally. I remain entirely mediocre, though. I'm currently 255 and heading back down to 220 with a stop at 242 on the way. I'm proud to call Bernor, Chase, Rob, CR and CT (who I first trained with in 1990 or so) my great friends and brothers, and they prove that it's the relationships i've made in this sport that keep bringing the old man back.

Wassup brother? Shingles? Didn't those go out when the Bus Driver was still in his 20's? Hope you feel better and teach those freaks to become gear whores.

PS- Domingo started hiding sandwiches in our deadlift couch to account for Chase not being around as much with his new work hours. It's just not the same though.

thanks man - after training with the East End maniacs, you can't let illness, life, heartache, etc stop you from training - those boys push hard and it pays off. If I can walk, i can do a little something something.

"My prediction? ..... PAIN" (clubber lang)

7/21/08

Tonight a bad thing happened to my pinky - read on for details

Bench
45 x 10
135 x 10
225 x 10
315 x 3

add rage x
405 x 1
495 x 1
596 x 1 - 2 brd
666 x 1 - 2 brd - here's where things went off the rails - touched the board, smooth to lockout, then some kind of funky re-racking accident where my left pinky got crushed under the upright - tendon got shmooshed and shunted off to the side, so that my pinky makes kind of an S shape in the wrong direction. Taped up, icing it, and if it's worse in the morning we're headed to the ER.

Remember when Domingo tried to kill me when I was doing rack dls at finest fitness? Gotta watch that kid. Meanwhile it looks like I won't need surgery or anything like that, just time to heal - nothing broken, and the tendon is starting to relax. Tonight I try to pull with 2 fingers taped together.

Wednesday 7/23/08

My finger is banged up for real - everytime I take off the splint it folds over backwards - I'm guessing that's not good. Decided to finish my bench assistance which got aborted on Monday before trying to pull

Bench
45 x 10
135 x 10 - here's where I realized that not being able to hold the bar with my left hand makes benching pretty hard

reverse grips ( able to seat the bar in my palm )
225 x 10
315 x 10
225 x 30

Deadlifts
135 x 2 (once again, not being able to hold the bar makes deadlifting hard)
add straps
315 x 5
506 x 5
this was pointless

dip machine
1/2 stack x 20
stack x 20

cable pushdowns
3sets 15 reps

straight arm lat pushdowns
3 sets 15 reps

hopefully this finger will heal up soon

Hey buddy, how's the finger doing? Duct tape is great, but I'm not sure it's the solution here. Backwards fingers might need a medical opinion. :hide:

Kong
07-28-2008, 07:13 PM
Yeah man i *****ed my finger about 3 weeks ago and left it over a week with no medical opinion thinking i was ghetto doctor and that some tape and support would be ok. Now i have pins and a frame on it and its starting to feel better (although it doesnt look too pretty!).

barracuda
07-28-2008, 09:48 PM
Hey fellas - I had an OT that we train with take a look at it and he thinks it'll heal up ok, and gave some rehab exercises to do - he says the tendon itself isn't damaged, but the sheath over it is (CT might know more about this) - It's getting better bit by bit, but it's still bending backwards a little - i'm going to the dr next week anyway so i'll ask him to have a look too. Meanwhile I can't do too much that involves holding the bar, but I only had one minor mishap tonight, so it's all good.

Monday 7/28/08

Squats

briefs
245 x 3
456 x 2
546 x 1

add canvas and belt
636 x 1 - now I remember why i hate squatting in canvas, plus Tampa in July is way too hot for multi-ply - i was drenched
726 x 1 - wraps - about 2 inches high - really hard to get down
801 x 1 - wraps - better , but still high - came up very fast, but still really hard to get down

minus belt and wraps
601 x 1, 601 x 2 -these were pointless

reverse grip benches (because I can't hold the bar normal with my gimpy finger)
135 x 10
225 x 8
315 x 2
365 x 0 - gimpy finger mishap, slipped and dropped on my ribcage, which luckily is heavily insulated with meat and gristle
whined for 45 minutes
225 x 33 - wasn't counting right, if I had known I would've tried to get 35 or 40

not bad all considered, but decided 3 things - (1) Tampa is too hot for canvas, (b) gonna squat in loose, breathable gear till winter, and (iii) I can't reverse grip heavy or bench heavy with my gimpy finger. Need to adjust training and wardrobe accordingly.

Bench

Did some additional raw work so as not to have to hold anything too heavy with my gimpy finger - also because my raw bench is in the toilet lately.

Close grip bench

45 x 20 this felt AWESOME!!!
135 x 10
225 x 10
315 x 5
365 x 1
405 x 1 -this felt heavier than it should have - definitely need to raise my raw game - raw meets are big down here, I guess because it's too freakin hot for heavy gear between April and September.
315 x 12

Took a page from CTs 'raw' training book - threw on a very loose bench shirt to bang out some reps - just a reminder of the groove, mostly

loose phenom
405 x 8
455 x 5

raw comp grip
275 x 10, 225 x 10, 135 x 10 - all one set

Andrew,
About that finger,
I understand yu can hyper extend but whats more important is to Make sure yu are making it bend and straighten. You dont want it to stiffen up. Soak you hand in warm water (with epsom salt if yu have any open wounds) and use yur good hand to move the bad one. Then tell Molly to slap you.

Guess I better dust this thing off - been training in between assorted illnesses and mishaps - missing my EEB boys - glad they had a decent meet this weekend.

Did the florida APA state meet at 242 on Dec 6th in honor of the EEB meet the same day - went 2035 off 4 for 9 in true EEB style - no prs, but managed to blow out my right knee on my 2d squat, and decided to finish the meet instead of going to the hospital, so was happy to finish. Can't really walk yet, but it's getting better everyday. Also tore my right brachialis on my 2d pull, after telling everyone that you really don't need to warm up for deads after a full meet. Also Molly reffed the meet, and threw me more reds than CR would have, so at least all my people are honest.

Anyhow, if anyone knows how to get Bernor to answer the phone, hit me up.

Oh and if anyone wants to know how to drop 12 pounds in 12 hours to make weight, I'm your man. Turns out 2035 at 242 is a submaster APA american and world record, and an open american record too. I think.

Holy crap! That's a lot to take in. Great job on being stubborn and putting up a big total. Did you wrap yourself in duct tape to finish the meet? 3 for 9 is usually how I total, but somehow I pulled off an odd 5 for 7. I'm glad Molly is keeping it real. Spero and Sarah were throwing reds all day as well.

Heal up brother. We miss you and Molly tons!! Hopefully we'll see you guys soon.

What's up big Poppa!! - For those of you who don't know Brandon - he's an awesome lifter, roughly the size of a barge, and an excellent handler.

We miss you brother!! Didn't train Monday - can't walk or drive right just yet - will try and get down there tomorrow. It went a little something like this

squat
800 - double pumped at the top - no lift
800 - good - felt knee pop on the way down, but it held
860 - knee folded in on the way down, but good spots - no lift

bench
575 - good
630 - fast, smooth, - but butt came up - no lift
630 - same

deads
600 - good
660 - good - but felt right brachialis tear on the way up, so that was it

training had been going better - hit 901 squat, 655 bench, 665 dead, but caught the stomach flu two weeks before the meet, and was still pretty sick and dehydrated, but pleased all in all that i finished.

the short term goal is to stay at 242 and hit somewhere close to 900, 675, 700 at the February APA meet, and then drop to 220 and hit similar numbers for the APA nationals. Assuming my knee holds up - I had it looked at today and it's not as bad as it felt - just stretched out the ligaments real good, but no complete tears. Back to the drawing board.

If you still are interested Eric Talmant is looking for 242's for the Raw unity meet. So you can probably still contact him and see what he has to say.

a correction - last pull was 625 not 660 - total was 2000 even (turns out not one person at the meet could add)

picked up a single ply super katana - can't get it over my forearms. Good sign.

Do you want Peter C's number? He'll have you bloat up another 20 lbs, then pinch that shirt 2" and still get you in it. :omg:

Rod looked at it - ligaments are stretched out pretty good, but not torn - a few weeks of rehab and should be hokey dokey
