1x20 - 225 - left about five in the tank but these were tough. I was gassed after this.

45 Degree Back Extension

I felt like on all my second reps of the speed squats with 325 I caved my chest and came forward a bit. Need to just get the form down. It feels like its been a long time since I have done speed squats (it's actually been three weeks). On top of that I had set up this three week cycle thinking I would just be doing regular box squats. Add in the foam and the weights are a little high. In fact I think i may stick with the foam for a while. Box squats so early in the morning is tough on my back so the foam will ease some of the impact.

So the local meet that I was going to do has been cancelled, so I am thinking of possibly doing IPA Sr. Nationals or wait and see if the local meet is rescheduled and just do that one. I will probably aim to do the Jersey Power Challenge at the end of January.

So I was definetly feeling a bit off today. No PR's. I think that I may have pushed it on the 455 Reverse Band on Tuesday, especially since I followed that up with shirt work. I was going to go for 5 on the 340 to set a PR on the 3 Board but after 3 reps I figured it was best to back off a bit and shut it down. I may also have needed to take a warmup set or two with the 3 board to get used to the board right after using the foam. Speed work was super fast but thats probably more due to the foam than anything else. My whole upper back is fried right now and I really cant figure out why.

Thanks Lones! The PRs have been coming every week and I am very grateful for that. Of course when you start counting rep PRs on a **** ton of exercises it becomes much easier to count them. But progress is progress, right?. On the 2-Board I had no lift off so who knows maybe I could hit 8. But, I will save it for another day. It has taken me 12 years to figure out that training to failure does not work for me.

Thanks Man! Speed was a little lacking today as I was dead tired this morning. But I was determined to NOT lower the weight since I will be deloading next week. Stupid is as stupid does. Or I could just put in my head that DE day is not really speed day anymore. In that case I should have put more weight on the bar. Dammit. I think I need to send an email to Jim Wendler about band tension.

Great to see another finance guy from NYC on the board! Where in Queens is your gym? I currently in Hoboken, but am considering moving to LIC next summer. I can't stand the NYSC atmosphere anymore.

Coliseum Gym is in Glendale, Queens (http://www.coliseumgym.com/). Not exactly close to mass transit but ts a 2 mile drive from my apartment in Forest Hills. It's FAR from LIC. I got away with box squatting and deadlifting in NYSC (with my own chalk) but I was probably a week or two away from being kicked out. If you are in Hoboken and have a car, there are some gyms near you. Skiba's Barbell is one that comes to mind in Carteret.

Thanks for the input. I don't currently have a car in Hoboken. If I moved to Queens or Brooklyn I would probably have my car which would open up more options. I can pretty much get away with whatever I want at my current location, but the clientele and trainers drive me nuts. I had a trainer try to correct my bench form the other day and tell me to bring the bar to the very top of my chest just below my neck. It's tough to remain motivated in there. I might look at some of the more serious gyms in the city like Steele. I'm a skinny little bber type, so I don't necessarily need a place that supports powerlifting. Mainly some place that is cool with deads, chalk, etc. Thanks again.

Good thing mine doesn't hurt :)

I have been trying to work on getting more knee bend, keeping my ass down and get more leg drive on some of the lighter sets, but this was my heaviest weight that I am taking on this four week cycle so my form tends to go to hell when I pull heavy. I have long arms so I dont neccesarily have to bend at the knees much to get good leverage on the weight. Believe me, I know my technique needs some work.

its basically a face pull with the rope but instead of going to the face, you go down to the belly. its a nice movement i like to throw in every now and if i want to hit lats but i don't want to smoke my low back too much.

Thanks! I hate doing free squats with bands but the chains, now that's a different story.

I dont use the rope but a close grip handle instead. And Vinny D Rows are the same idea using a wide grip....I think....Well, what I do mimics pulling the bar down low, similar to a shirted groove.

yeah, either way works. i saw a vid on youtube and the guy was using the rope, so i started using it. i think its a bit easier on the wrists.

I'm not sure how much the Chuck V's really kills my lats, for me it's more an attempt to reinforce my shirt technique, or lack thereof.

I am about to start month 3 on the Deadlift. I am incorprating a variation of it for my (raw) squat warmups usings 3's, 2's and 1's. We'll see how that goes, but basically the volume is reduced, and I will be less aggressive on rep maxes (no more than 2 extra reps). Basically I just wanted to work in some organized progressive overload on my raw warmup squats. I dont use it on the bench currently.

This was my second session in this shirt so we will see. Considering I benched 435 in May at my last meet and also benched in the shirt 3 days ago, I was very very happy to lock this out today. I got plenty of time before my next full meet (Jan 25) and I may do a bench only meet in early December.

Ah, OK, that shirt should stretch out a bit. Hopefully you can get somewhere close to 500 to touch, as you didn't have much problem getting that locked out, which is a nice improvement from May. Keep working the doubles and triples a few more sessions.

Thanks Man! The Pin SSB Good Mornings are awfully brutal. There is defintely a technique in getting under the bar. They would have been much easier with the Spud Straps as opposed to setting the bar on the pins. Getting the bar moving off the pins requires you to strain like hell.

I am looking to try these soon. I need to get some chain or straps to hold em up. I've heard they are great for bringing up the DL, which I am always a fan of!

Do you use the same "flex the bar off" (pins/floor, etc.) like you would a deadlift?

I've been reading about this lately, and am interested to get some more opinions.

On the Pin Good Mornings, I just get super tight and make sure I get my legs in a good position, and drive my head back. I missed 275 the first time because I was in a bad position. With the SSB you really have to make sure to push your head back into the bar. Otherwise you will not be able to move the bar as the movement become more of a neck extension.

I have no idea if the GM helps my deadlift or my squat. I know deadlifting has helped my deadlift. And my squat has been pretty crappy. I have a lot of little form issues that need to get worked out. I havent been doing a lot of GMs lately.

Up until Thursday this last week I was set to only do a push / pull meet this past weekend. So on Thursday I decided to just do the full meet since I was already resting this week and hadn't squatted heavy in two weeks.

Squat

700 - Good Lift but for some reason I don't seem to be holding my air.

730 - No Lift - For some reason I shook off the squat when I was almost all the way up. I have no idea why because I was coming up with it. One of the spotters touched the bar so no lift. Add in the fact that I look to be hardly holding in any air and it's no wonder that I was stalling out on this and wussed out on the lift.

730 - No Lift - Same as above. Speechless.

Bench

455 - Good Lift - The shirt felt a little loose today. Not sure why because I havent lost any weight

475 - Good Lift - A little tough at lock out

500 - No Lift - Mis-grooved the lift and it ended up coming up and over my face

Deadlift

650 - Good Lift - Smoked this one like it was 405

700 - Good Lift

725 - Good Lift - Tough but a huge 50 lb PR for me nonetheless

1900 Total at 265 lbs. 115 lb Meet PR

I hate to come away with PRs and still be disappointed but the misses on the squat are just not acceptable. I need more time in full gear and I need to get used to having heavy weight on my back more often. I had some issues with my suit throwing me forward a bit today, which usually doesnt happen so long as I get the leg seams pulled all the way up on the Ace, which they were. A few days rest and it's time to get back to work.

Yes, I have a differnt login over on FI, but since there is a lifter named Eric Hubbs and I have a username ehubbs I decided to go with the full last name here. I was happy with the deadlift. It seems to be the only lift I can go 3/3 on. Next meet I sense you will hit that 3rd deadlift.

Thanks Lenny! It's a 4 rep raw with a belt PR. I have only been doing reps for the last 4 months so there isnt a lot of history there. Before the meet my heaviest weight was 575 for 5 (again raw with a belt). I've been doing Wendler's 5/3/1 on my pulls. So 585 for 4 is about a 660 pull for me. Add the 50 pounds for the suit and it gets me close to the 725 I pulled.

Had some issues today in the hole. My knee came in a bit on the 505 set and from then on out I just did not feel comfortable in the hole. Weights came up pretty well all things considered. I am not sure if the 555 in briefs and 645 in suit bottoms are both PRs but I felt I had plenty left in the tank on both. I'm going to take some time and work on my IT band and hamstrings this week.

The band tension pulls up on the feet of the monolift. I have used blue bands before many times without the mono even budging. It would be nice if the mono was bolted to the floor, seeing as there are lots of other people in the gym that have no idea how to use a monolift that could seriously hurt themselves if that thing were to tip again. But, from now on, I will have to drag the 200 lb dumbells over and rest them on the feet. Assuming that I am allowed back in the gym.

Feeling run down training in the evenings, especially with a lack of food and caffeine in my system. I will probably not cycle in the rack pulls on the same day I pull, but rather pull from the rack the week after my 5/3/1 week and then deload after that.

What makes it even more impressive is Erics height. I'm 6 foot and Eric is about 2-4 inches taller than me. Taller lifters aren't typically very strong off the floor.

Training in the evenings sucks, I'm just now starting it now and my energy levels are down.

Dude that blows. Bill and I trained this morning and we figured thats what happened. Most gym owners wouldn't make you pay. This guy is a cheap, and extremely fat, ****.

Essentially, I flipped the monolift and broke a mirror at the gym I train at. In the process a mirror was broken. The mono flipped because I had blue bands on it, which I have tested out and used many times before without weighing down the mono. My foot and shin were dinged up in the process but at this point they feel OK, just a little sore. The gym owner asked me to pay the full amount to replace the mirror, which I refused. Without contacting me they cancelled my membership. I could say a lot of negative and derogatory things about it, but I will refrain and move on. I feel I am in the right and most everone I have talked to about this agree.

Gotcha. If you think you are right, keep on fighting.

They really should bolt the monolift down. We do this and have no problems, and I've seen 2 blues, a green and a purple on it at once.

Damn man that is BS!! I wish you lived out on the Island, you'd always be welcome to come lift with us.
