I plan on getting a belt for squats and deadlift. I have never used a belt before so I'm not sure what size to get. My tape measure around the belly button is 33" I just measured it with a tape gently placed around my waist, not tight or anything. I'm a really short guy so that explains why it's so small.

Should I be getting a small belt (29-32")? I'm not sure if that would be too loose for me. There is an extra small one also (24-28"), is that too small?

Go with your waist measurement and follow the sizing chart. What belt are you getting?

Well I don't have that much money on me so I can't spend anything over $40

This one looks okay and affordable, what do you think?

Well since you can't spend more than $40, that belt is probably going to be the best bang for your buck. In the future when you have some more $$ I'd probably upgrade though. I've use that belt that you're buying and its alright, but I love my Inzer belt

I'm just curious, what is it that separates Inzer powerlifiting belts from other ones out there?

I'd check out these belts from Titan: http://www.titansupport.com/products/belts/toro.htm
One of the Seniors from West Point had one last year, he was about 285 and was moving serious weight and he liked the belt a lot.
Can't beat the price, that's for sure. Obviously you'd want the 4".

I found the Inzer belt to be a little thicker construction, yet still forms to your body. The Titan belt is good as well, but I've just found the Inzer one to be more supportive

i prefer my retro 10mm over my inzer 10mm and apt belts. its a very sturdy belt and conforms to your body in short time.

my waist is 36-38 and i have a large gut. i wear the large size. its best to call elite fitness before you order.

I see, so I guess I'm getting what I pay for. I don't think it's going to make a huge difference for me though. I'm just looking for something that's affordable. I have one more question Travis, how would you rate eft's retro 10mm (the one I said I might be getting) compared to the titan belt?

Don't get me wrong, the one you're getting is a great starter belt, but still not quite top of the line where Titan and Inzer will be

Thank you for being helpful, Travis. I really appreciate that.

This might sound like a stupid/obvious question but when it says "waist measure", are they asking my actual waist size or the size of a belt I'm getting?

I'd go with your waist measurement personally but when I bought mine, I just drove by Elite haha. I live pretty close to them so I just tried one on

go with what you can afford..it will definately be a night and day difference from what you have now. I picked up a 10mm belt from APT and LOVE IT! However make sure if you're pulling that a thicker belt doesn't pinch you and prevent you from going deep enough down to the bar. I use my big belt for squats and a thinner tapered belt for pulling that's thicker at the back for more back support while thinner at the front to allow me to bend over at the waist to pull.

Thank you guys for the help. I ordered the titan one, and I just got it in the mail today.

It's thick and stiff as hell, which brings up another question I have:
Do I have to keep it this way or do I have to make it loose so it forms around my body better (kind of like a baseball glove if you know what I mean)
