I'd be in for sure, I'll tell you guys what if I managed to go a whole season without missing a week you'd all be in trouble. Last two years in a row I missed a week and still ended up in the runnings.

What running were you in last year? Not to finish in last place? I'm pretty sure you stopped picking altogether halfway through the season and finished towards the bottom of the pool. This was after guaranteeing a top three finish.

I finished at LEAST in the top quater of the pool, and I missed a complete week all together.

The only thing I quit halfway through (twice) was the fantasy football because I got eff'ed a lot in that one (my own fault but still). Pick em is way easier to keep on top of then fantasy football.

Had I not gotten all the picks wrong for one week (for missing it) I very well may have finished in the top 3. I was very VERY consistent last season.

You were not in the top six, that I know for sure. Myself, kickbacks, Bob and Talking God all had an outside shot the last few weeks. You didn't, that I know for a fact.

Had I not gotten all the picks wrong for one week (for missing it) I very well may have finished in the top 3. I was very VERY consistent last season.

You were five picks out of first (with a lot of people grouped together) when you missed a week and I think you finished more games behind me than games played in a week. I think there were only four people who could have passed me the last week and the top three were pretty much set in stone. Either way, you weren't in the running at the end and you weren't in the top quarter at the end. Stop lying.

WBBIRL
08-05-2008, 07:27 PM
As far as I can remember I finished no lower then middle of the pack, which wasn't bad at all since I missed a week.

I don't care how many games separated how many people, that really doesn't matter.

I'm not lying, that's as best I can remember. Although I really don't care what you have to say/think about how much I can remember about last seasons pickem.

Look at your posts, in the running, top quarter at LEAST, now middle of the pack.

When the whole contest is based around games, it does matter.
I'm not lying, that's as best I can remember. Although I really don't care what you have to say/think about how much I can remember about last seasons pickem.

Then why are you responding? If you don't care, then stop talking yourself up about things that don't even matter. Besides, I'm just busting your balls.

Honestly I responded because I really had nothing better to do at the exact point in time. My lady friend is at work and most of my other friends are either out of town or are broke/being boring. Thats why I'm even on the computer.

What say we do $5 a piece entry too? Maybe into a paypal account? One of the moderators or someone from ALN could set it up, they're free to make and pretty much free to use.

Top 3 pays out along with the rest of the prizes, that would make it 62.50 for first, 37.50 for second and 25 for third (50%,30%,20%)

What do you guys think? It would make it more interesting, $5 is just a throw out there price though. I'd be willing to go in for as much as $20 but the money is really more of just to have something for the winners.

I was doing much debating about the deadline for paying too...

If it was $20 buy in I think the deadline should be week 8, if it's $5 lets just do it right up front. 50%,30%,20% breakdown 1st,2nd,3rd.... I'm always broke but I know I can get 5$ by season start and I know I'd have $20 come week 8. Typical college kid's finances lol

Those who don't pay by the deadline, simply don't win the money section of the prizes... it would bump down to the next person in the line. So that would make it possible for someone to win money but not win any ALN prizes.

That carolina game was absolute crap... 4th and 1 on the 20 with a high snap + going over TWO defenders in a 9 square yard section of field.... give me a break.

They're giving the Jets a 9 and 7 season... I'm giving them 11 and 5 and the Jet's don't exactly have an easy schedule this year.

3 way tie so far for first... but 3 games left to play.

Absolutely! I kinda liked the Jets before Favre since I'm from NJ, but now that they have my favorite player of all time, its a no brainer. Plus if the Jets make the playoffs, the Pack gets a better draft pick for Favre. Win Win.

Is that a joke? If Rodgers can manage games as well as he did last night, why can't this team win the division? TJack cannot be a consistent QB in the NFL,.. all they have consistently on offense is AP, and you can stack the box to limit him. The O Line did an AWESOME job vs the best D Line in the NFL. Where was Jared Allen all night? Rodgers took apart the defense when McCarthy opened up the playbook. It shoulda been a blowout if it wasn't for some really ridiculous penalties, including an ineligible OL downfield on the slant and go TD to Driver (helluva play by Rodgers/ Driver there.) Vikes don't scare me ONE BIT.

NFC is wide open again this year. Cowboys can't win in the playoffs. Why can't this team go deep in the playoffs? Rodgers has been handed a 13-3 team... ok... Maybe more like a 11-5 or 10-6 team since Brett won 2-3 games last year. They have a chance of being a dynasty for the next few years to come.

The bears should though, they will more then likely win that division.....

The packers are a good team, but I wouldn't put FULL confidence in him just yet until we see him repeat that effort a few more times...

why I gave them a wild card spot is because the bears are probably going to win the NFC... only other way in for the pack is wild card.

It will depend a lot on who stay healthy at key positions. I still see it as a three way race between Green Bay, Minnesota, and the Bears. If the Bears D stays healthy all yer I see them just being too strong. Minny needs to get their running game going again because the QB play just isn't there. Green Bay is balanced but Rodgers needs to play lke he did in that first game for them to have a good chance.

18/22 but only about 170 yars minus one of 60yards, a lots of short pass, i think that was the game plan. Now in Greenbay everybody say 18/22 wow....that performance was good but not great!! The packs have a solid team and that will defenetly help Rodger but dont go crazy about him to fast..

Did you see the TD that got called back because of an inelligable WR downfield?

Driver caught that ball and seemingly found another gear, a gear I've NEVER seen him have, and burnt the **** out of the Vikings secondary...

With WR's like him and James Jones wouldn't you do those short passes too?, they make one guy miss and its off the races.

That's the style of offense green bay runs, and I like it alot.

I'm not putting Rodgers up to be championship material, but I must give the man credit... he did a lot better then I thought he would have.

Did you know the Packers led the league last year in yards after the catch? It doesn't matter who the QB is if he can find the open man and deliver it to him with some room for him to make a move. Rodgers doesn't need to air it out every down to be successful. The depth of his receiving corps is among the best in the league.

His deep ball to Jennings was perfectly thrown. It's the kids first start taking over for a legend, on MNF, vs the bitter rivals. For the amount of pressure everyone put on him he responded flawlessly as far as I'm concerned.

Exactly, and the deep throw to Donald Driver was as well... exactly where they needed to be for only the packers WR to make the catch.

Regardless, the packers play a yards after catch kinda ball game. They have physical, fast, and tough WR's that love that first hit.... after they light up a corner or saftey they kick it up a gear and ZING gone. You see it all the time if you watch a packers game.

They don't rely on speed, you will rarely see a deep route that depends on the WR outrunning the saftey or corner. In one on one matchups, they plan for that defender to be in the mix and the WR's to fight for that ball.

I don't exactly know what your getting at, Crankman, but the guy did very well for his NFL debut. Lets see how he does this week though.

The packers secondary just made that game look like a joke...

I dont know what happened lol, I checked NFL.com and the packers were up 24-3 I think or something like that and then its 25-24 detriot... then the packers score 3 defensive touchdowns in less then 5 min of game clock.

Depsite the defense letting it get close, then putting the hammer WAY down ... A-Rod has had a hell of a start to his career. I don't think anyone can talk down his performance... his numbers were probowl level.

Do you guys want me to set the pool so you have to make your picks before the first game of the week or before EACH game? For instance, if you all choose the 2nd, you can wait until 5 mins before the late games start to pick those. That might be better in case some important player is a late scratch or something? Whadda think?

Crankman
09-22-2008, 10:52 AM

First big test for Mr Rodgers last night, results = Failed!!!!

Cemented first place? You had a two game lead over Guido, who was gaining on you each week. You had a three game lead over myself and Hormone (who the hell is that). You could have picked every game this week and still not be in first right now, people had nice weeks. And I don't care who you would have picked after the fact. Nice that you have confidence, but you were far from cementing anything, especially since you think it'll be easy to make up 8 games. You're acting like you were running away with the contest, you weren't. You might still come back and win, but be honest.

I was having strong weeks every week, pickin on par with the best of that week or sometimes even better. There's lots of picks left to make... who knows whats goana go on yet.

Not in the least. I responded directly to you thinking 8 games is easy to make up, but a three game lead pretty much cements a victory for you.

I didn't say anything different. You think you can make up 8 games in a few weeks. You wrote that.

I was having strong weeks every week, pickin on par with the best of that week or sometimes even better. There's lots of picks left to make... who knows whats goana go on yet.

You were having strong weeks, but you weren't running away from the group. A bunch of people were within a few games of you and one good week by any of them could have put them ahead of you.

I could end up finishing way down the list, or I could win it... I guess will know at the end.

Of course it's petty, but there's nothing going on in this thread. Guido posts each week if he has a good week and that's about it. Last year, there was a little trash talking, this year everyone is all prim and proper. We're past the halfway point for crying out loud. Trying to stir things up a little when someone talks about having things cemented, but I guess this group is beyond busting balls. Sorry, didn't realize that. There used to be a mild sense of humor on here, and even though it was a weak attempt to start some sh##, it was an attempt.

And calling us ladies? That's your contribution? Don't be upset the Yankees sucked, the Packers are sucking and the Gators and your man crush Tebow aren't making the championship game.:ninja:

To get back to the theme of this thread.

I'm really excited I picked the Broncos last night. I was going to switch last minute, but decided not to. Guess that worked out for me. Up to a tie for second now, really happy about that. Gee, this is just so exciting, hope everyone got their picks in for the rest of the games. Good luck everyone. :boring:

Like how the steelers did everything they could to lose the game against the colts or how the packers FG nails two from 60 yards yet misses that one to win it from like 51 or 52. The rams must of been a one hit wonder, as the jets lit em up something feriece and the jets aren't even that good this season.

As it sits I'm now possible 9 or ten games out of first but theres still plenty of football left to be played in this season. It's still all up for grabs IMO

I think anyone within a dozen games is still in the mix. The problem is that the guys who are a few back are going to have to start picking some upsets in order to make up ground. That can backfire real quick and one bad week could end any shot. If they play it safe and pick the favorites, there might not be enough time left to come back.

This week could be big. I see six games that look like toss ups. That could make a huge difference if someone gets them all right.

The top five look pretty solid for a close finish, the rest need to do some work this week, or their chances are about gone. I'm still waiting for my meltdown and then a few weeks of upset picks in an attempt to get back on top, followed by a fifth place finish.

The weeks don't get any easier, either. Wilder has had a few really good weeks lately. The rest of us have been decent to good, but he's on fire the last two weeks. He's made up a ton of ground and I think he missed out on picking early games one week way back in the season. This is pretty similar to last year, with five guys in the mix with a month left. Giants and Steelers. I've liked the Giants as far back as I can remember and once I started to understand football, started to like the Steelers because of their smash mouth offense and Kirkland and the rest of the LB's. I think we went percentage instead of total. 15/16 better than 11/12, but 11/12 better than 14/16, not completely sure though. There's a good chance there will be a tie someplace in the top three, so we better come to an agreement soon. I like this way more than straight total, what does everyone else think? In reality, I'm pretty much screwed on the tie breakers no matter what.

I have a beef about week 11. There were 16 games played that week, but one of course ended in a tie- The Eagles and Bengals game. I correctly picked 14 games out of the 15 possible (how could you predict the tie?) That game should not be counted in the standings/ tiebreaker, leaving me with a 14/15 week instead of a 14/16 week when I did not actually miss two games. That tie could make a big difference in the tiebreaker situation. Just saying.

14/15 or 14/16 is the second best week right now, so unless someone goes 14/16 in the next few weeks, it won't matter. Wilder has the best week at 15/16.

I don't really care either way, but I say it's a 14/16 week. It counts as 14/16 in the standings.

Seattle pulled that Win out of their asses and I am eternally grateful. I knew the Giants were gonna lose, but the semi-homerness inside me wouldn't allow me to make the switch to the CowBitches. I'm assuming everyone picked the Eagles tonight so I will have just a one game lead going into the last two weeks. This may come down to the very last game of the season.

There were about five games that I thought were toss ups, I missed all but one of them. Happy to be a game back, pissed that I picked so poorly this week. Definitely a week where I didn't just go with my gut on the picks. That's what I get for thinking.

Have we decided on the tie breaker? There's five of us in the running, but no one is speaking up. I'm cool with anything, as long as I'm in the top three.

isn't best week the usual tie breaker? (and I'm not just saying that because I had the best week....)

How do you determine best week, though.

If we go percentage, this is how it looks. Hormone and I are tied with our best weeks, he beats me with our second best weeks.

King Wilder 15/16
Yankeekd25 14/16
Make a Hormone 12/14, 11/14
Mike G 12/14, 12/16
Guido 11/14

If we just go most right for a week it changes Hormone and I. We're tied for our best two weeks, I beat him for the third best week. Everyone else stays the same.

Wilder 15
Yankeekd25 14
Mike G 12, 12, 12
Hormone 12, 12, 11
Guido 12, 11

Personally, I think we should go percentage even though it drops me. I think that is the fairest way to do it.

Either way, we should decide this week, before games. Things could get messy after this week and right now, only two of us would change spots depending on the tie breaker. If Guido gets 13/16 this week, he would have a higher week than Hormone and I, but not a better percentage week (just an example).

This is going to come down to who makes a gutsy upset pick. There are a few games this week that should get picks for both teams, but I think the deciding factor will be a big upset that no one else picks.

Yankeed25, sucks your pick didn't get saved. Luckily, you own the tie breaker over everyone but Wilder, so hopefully you don't lose by one game. I honestly mean that, I want you to really suck this week and lose by a few games. Good luck.

It's a good week for some upsets. A few really good teams meeting up. Plenty of teams playing that still have playoff hopes. Some teams that are favored that can't make the playoffs. I pick each week before the lines come out, not sure if I have upsets or not this week.

The Lions over the Saints is a great pick. The Lions have been playing hard, the Saints are dead after a tough loss. I don't have the balls to pick them, though.

I thought someone in the top five would take a shot with Baltimore, I'm a little surprised. I had them picked and then changed it yesterday. I did that with two other games, so I'll probably miss them. I over thought this week and instead of just picking the games, I picked based on who I thought everyone else would pick. Last year, I went with upsets and dropped the last month, this year I'm being more conservative and hoping someone else drops. Probably not a good strategy.

Even though I picked them, I hope the Cowboys lose. I want to see Owens melt down and tear another team apart. I'm sick of him crying about the press making him look bad and that he's a great team mate. I would rather the Cowboys miss the playoffs than win our contest.

3 way tie going into Sunday.

I don't even want to talk about this week. I had the Ravens, Chargers and Titans picked on Monday before the lines came out. Then I thought about the games a little more and changed them on Wednesday. Gonna need a miracle in order to win this now. Not really though. You have the tie breaker, he needs to beat you next week in order to win. I need to beat both of you by two next week, unless someone misses tonight's game. The Million Dollar Question:

Do you pick all the favorite to keep pace (if you're 2nd or 3rd)

or

Do you pick some more upsets than usual in hopes of bumping up to 1st or 2nd?

Atlanta vs St. Louis
New England vs Buffalo
Cincinnati vs Kansas City (toilet bowl XXXLVIIIII)
Green Bay vs Detroit
Tennessee vs Indianapolis
Minnesota vs New York (NYG) (will NYG rest?)
Carolina vs New Orleans (Brees going for record)
New York (NYJ) vs Miami
Philadelphia vs Dallas
Pittsburgh vs Cleveland
Tampa Bay vs Oakland
Baltimore vs Jacksonville
Houston vs Chicago
Arizona vs Seattle
San Francisco vs Washington
San Diego vs Denver

Solid 7/10 difficulty level for next weeks games.

Mike G
12-22-2008, 04:43 PM
Atlanta vs St. Louis Atlanta is in, but they could still be a 2 seed

New England vs Buffalo Buffalo showed up this week, how hard will they play for Jauron this week?

Cincinnati vs Kansas City (toilet bowl XXXLVIIIII) Both teams suck, who sucks less?

Green Bay vs Detroit Detroit has to come out with guns blazing, right?

Tennessee vs Indianapolis Neither team has anything to gain, who cares less?

Minnesota vs New York (NYG) Minnesota is fighting for positioning, New York can't gain anything, but already has a week off

Carolina vs New Orleans Aside from Brees, the South teams rarely lose at home and New Orleans would love to keep Carolina from a conference title.

New York (NYJ) vs Miami Favre sucks lately and the Jets are in bad shape for play off hopes.

Philadelphia vs Dallas Dallas is in with a win, Philly can keep that from happening and keep their chances alive.

Pittsburgh vs Cleveland Pittsburgh has nothing to gain, Cleveland is awful and seems to have checked out.

Tampa Bay vs Oakland The Raiders hate Gruden, Tampa killed themselves this past week but can still get in.

Baltimore vs Jacksonville Baltimore needs to win, Jacksonville has disappointed all season long.

Houston vs Chicago Chicago might still be alive after tonight, the Texans looked bad this weekend.

Arizona vs Seattle Arizona is playing awful since they won the West, they need to wake up, but Seattle is still playing hard for Holmgren.

San Francisco vs Washington 49ers are a different team since Singletary, the Skins have nothing to gain with a win.

San Diego vs Denver This might decide the whole thing.

Tough week of games. Only a few obvious picks, the rest are toss ups. I wonder the same thing Yankeekd25, what will everyone else do? Do I pick some long shots in hopes of moving up, or do I go conservative in hopes of staying put? I did that this week and it blew up in my face. Last year I went with some upsets and dropped out of contention. Tough decision.

Son of a *****. Eli played like garbage, but that's Eli. He's hot one game, awful the next. The play calling was horrible in the first half. Run on first and second, throw on third and long. Losing Plaxico really hurt the Giants at the end of the year. Hixon is decent, but he's not the same threat as Plax. Pierce absolutely kills the Giants in passing situations, especially the last month and a half. The Eagles are hot right now and maybe this is the year McNabb gets a title. Won't be able to get rid of him if he does that.

At least I have still have the Steelers playing. They looked real good in the beating they put on the Chargers, who were the hottest team in the playoffs. Should be fun to watch them and the Ravens next weekend.
