A couple of weeks ago, I started to pull the sled to build GPP.

I've tried a few different types of form: straight walking, wide-stance walking, walking backwards.

What types of sled pulling do you guys like to do?

Sprint drag (lighter weight 100m sprints)
Forward sprinting on quad dominant/front squat day
Backward sprinting on ham dominant/ Deadlift or GerardDeads day

Heavy drag (as heavy as possible that I can keep momentum 40m)
Forward on ham dominant/SLDeads day
Backward on quad dominant/back squat day

I rotate every other week. This help?

Your input helps for sure!

How many variations do you do at one time?

I'm just getting into pulling the sled for GPP myself. If you go to this link, http://asp.elitefts.com/qa/default.asp?tid=110&__N=Sled%20Drills , you will find many, many variations of things you can do with a sled. I've found it to be very helpful. I hope this helps you, bud!

I only do one variation at a time. I think many of those variations on the elite site are...silly to say the least. I am sure they can be adapted depending on your goals and (lack of) equipment.

You should look up some of the defranco's guys and talk to them about sled work...many are very knowledgeable!

I will look up DeFranco.

Thanks for the advice.

Yesterday was my Back Day, and after hitting 1-arm dumbbell rows, pulldowns, band backhands, barbell curls and standing cable crunches, I went outside to pull the sled in the sun.

I decided I wanted to go heavy and took 5 45 plates outside with me.

The first three sets with 1, then 2, then 3 plates were all pretty easy.

The fourth set with 4 plates was hard.

The last half of my trip with 5 plates felt like I was pulling a car!

I then proceeded to dry-heave 3 times as I took all the equipment back into the gym (I trained alone).

What are your guys PRs on sled pulls?

When I pull heavy I use a 400# tire, the same I use for flipping
For sprints I use a homemade sled on grass with an 80# punching bag and two 25# plates

I have a strap with handles that I use to do my upper body rehab sled pulling. I do the following:

Curls
Overhead tricep extensions
Lateral pulls
Chest press
Back rows

I'm not sure what you call the ones where you go backwards with the handles kinda do a face pull? Really works the rear delts in a huge way

Where do you live?

My gym is cool with most anything, but I don't think they would like my driving down to the beach to use the sled.

Unfortunately, the sled I use doesn't have handles.

Where did you buy your sled?

I did not buy my sled. It was donated to me by the lovely Matt Rhodes. Get some straps for handles or fashion them out of a rope. Improvise my brother.

Good idea.

The sled I use was already at my gym (World Gym rocks! :strong:).
