Just an update on what we are doing.

- Our new recovery formula product is being considered for production cost and retail viability.
- Our new "greens" (fruit and vegetable shake) product is in for the same as above.
- We are finalizing flavors for our new protein bars.
- We are making some final decisions on a waxy maize product.

Hey Chris- Can you tell us the timetable for when they will be available? What will be the difference between the new recovery product and ETS?

I was just introduced to the waxy maize concept this weekend at europa. When do you think you guys will release these new products.

Hey Chris- Can you tell us the timetable for when they will be available? What will be the difference between the new recovery product and ETS?

Timetable is tough. Figure in the next 3 months.

The new recovery product was formulated by a researcher we have brought on and is totally unique relative to ETS. In fact, we wanted it that way and the two products can be used in conjunction with each other if you wish.

I am really curious about the recovery product. I am a firm believer in ETS so to have something in conjuction with that sounds really exciting. It's great to see ALN forging ahead with new products. You guys are doing a great job.

I am very interested in the greens supplement. Veggies are absolutely horrible for me to eat, only way I can even stand it is in a smoothie and it ends up being about 32oz of horridness - 2-3 oranges+spinach.

I assume you've determined that dried/powderized veggies are just as nutritionally viable as raw? I take a green drink now and it makes a noticeable difference in digestion but who knows what I'm really getting in terms of phytonutrients.

Ok:

- Test booster has run into a bit of a snag relative to one of the ingredients.
- The recovery product is coming along. It is a complex product, so it is taking some time to get the costs sorted.
- The greens product is coming along very nicely!
- The protein bars kick ass! Hopefully they will be to market in a month or so.
- The waxy maize is going well, just sorting sourcing.

Yes, and it will be a product which boosts and or alters natural levels, not a pro-hormone etc.

Ok, the protein bars are getting close. We are currently having the wrappers and boxes designed. Once that is complete it should be 4 weeks or so. We are deciding on the flavors as we have decided to start with 2.

What do you guys think from the following?

Mint chocolate
Cookie dough
Raspberry chocolate
Coconut

That is great news!

I have always liked mint chocolate bars, raspberry sounds very good as well.

Coconut can be tough... I really liked the old tri-o-plex coconut bars but they are not very good for you and changed the formula so I don't eat them. Cookie Dough would be a no-go for me, seems like the bars never come out tasting like actual cookie dough (but you guys seem to be magicians when it comes to flavoring so maybe you could pull it off).

My top 2: Mint & Raspberry

What is the carb source used in the bars?
Are vitamins/minerals really necessary in the protein bar?

1) Primarily glycerin and maltitol.
2) No, but they are never a bad thing.

Agreed. Seems like a market with great potential. Good protein bars would be such a helpful supplement to me being on the road and yet it seems most of the bars out there either taste poor or have marginal nutritional specs. At Large has yet to disappoint for me in the supps realm.

Just go for it. You have a loyal customer base and if the product works as advertised you'll have enough consistent buyers to make it worth it. As obsessive as lifters are, they aren't going turn doing that kind of test boost if it translates into results. Just run some specials early on for very little margin to get people hooked and talking and $.

chris mason
01-22-2009, 12:14 PM
We actually have several new products in the works. It is just a matter of money at this point. Each product costs tens of thousands of dollars to bring to market thus compelling us to release them over time.

Chris

anonymous1
01-22-2009, 05:51 PM
What? Tens of thousand of dollars? How?

Travis Bell
01-22-2009, 06:37 PM
There's research that has to be paid for, contacting manufacturers to find the best price, quality control, label ideas, name ideas, getting the packaging, getting the taste right (which means multiple batches made) getting the best recipe, the list goes on man. This stuff isn't cheap to develop at all. Going into specifics would be ridiculous, but the point is AtLarge spends what it takes to bring out the best supplements possible. We don't just throw a supplement together and call it good enough.

anonymous1
01-27-2009, 10:52 PM
Damn that is a crazy initial investment for the margins you guys are making (roughly), that would take a few years to even become profitable. I don't understand the research end of it, as so far the products have all been on the market previously and aren't anything "special" or new. Just higher quality and better formulated versions of current stuff.

With the list you gave me, I don't see tens of thousand of dollars. Whatever, though. I'll take your word on it.

product production, implementation, advertising, formulation, r n d, etc..i could very easily see it costing way more than that qoute. Chris and ALN put the utmost into their products and make sure they're the best they can be before coming down the line to us.. everything they make is damn sure worth the price.

As someone who works in food manufacturing, tens of thousands to come up with a new product is very very conservative.
