I haven't competed in 12 years or so, since my high school days. I was told there is a meet in November in Ravenswood. I was planning on going on July 12th, but my daughter was born on that day. I want to compete in the raw unequipped bench only. Does anyone know if there will be an event for this? Also, which class will I fall into, right now I weight 235. I looked at their website and it says there is a class for 220.25 and a class for 242.25, wasn't sure how it worked.

yes for nasa there is an unequipped bench press only division. you are allowed wrist wraps, and a belt if you want (you dont have to use them)
you will be in the 242lb class unless you cut 15lbs.

The raw division is called Powersports(only a belt & singlet allowed).

I'll be helping with the judging on Saturday, but plan to compete on Sunday.

Good luck on Saturday!!

Glad you'll be there JT. Maybe you can take me under your wing and give me some pointers since I haven't competed in such a long time. All I need is some chalk to do my thing. But I do need some tips on the rules. For example does the spotter have to do the liftoff? Does head have to be flat on bench? Is it touch and go or is there a pause? I need to be working on these things if so. Although minor details I need to work on them. For some reason I never do well with a liftoff from spotter.

I am going for 440-450 raw hopefully by then. Will that be a competitive lift in the intermediate class?

2008 WV STATE MEET RESULTS
http://www.nasa-sports.com/Results/Results%20WV%20St.htm

1. You can have a liftoff or you can unrack the weight yourself.
2. The head can be off the bench.
3. You will have to pause.
4. Just depends on who show up that day.

If you have anymore questions, just ask anytime.

yes there is a pause - the head ref gives a "press" command
but and shoulders must stay on the bench, you may lift your head
must have an even lock out.
also you cannot move your feet even this much or you will be redlighted.:omg:

JT, on that results page you linked those are equipped lifts, right? I see Steve Martin's name on there. I know him and his best raw lift is only about 360 or so, but it shows a 451 lb lift which I know has to be shirted.

The results are for equipped and unequipped.

Steve Martin competed in the open class and most likely used a bp shirt. If he had competed raw, his name would have been listed underneath the unequipped or powersports category.
