How would you feel if your win or loss was dictated by this many seconds?

Did he hit him while he was loading the stone?

Same thing I was wondering.

Anyone know when this will be on TV?

You don't watch many races do you? Swimming, track and field sprinting, etc.. where wins are often dictacted by less than a 10th of a second!

Looks like it. I'd be pissed if I was Poundstone.

More like how bad must it be to know he had the stone there and had him beat but he dropped it.

deeder, if you follow WSM its not often a win is that close

that was very very close. Looked like Derek just got in a little bit too much of a hurry on that last stone or he'd have had it

that's like tripping before the finish line =\ poor guy, that's gonna haunt him until the next competition

That will motivate him and next year we will see the best (and hopefully the healthiest) Derek Poundstone yet!

Why do you make these inappropriate comments? They weren't competing in those events.

Isn't that about how Phil one it from Pudz in 2006? Pudz making sure it didn't happen again. I just watched one day but from the few I talked to all of the guys are good entertainers for the sport and fan friendly.

Pretty close. Pudz set his up so hard that it rolled back off if I'm not mistaken, giving Phister the time he needed to set his stone up.

thats exactly what happened. i remember watching it on TV about a million times, last winter they had strongman marathons on ESPN. he threw the stone up there too hard. you know how when you play mini golf, and your shot will be SO close that it will graze the cup and spit it back out? thats what the stone looked like!

i need to do strongman. i can eat 12,000 calories a day, i'm pretty sure i can squat more raw than in gear right now, i'm 290 lbs when i'm dieting, and i'm 6'3. forget this powerlifting stuff! haha

I almost fainted when I saw Derek Poundstone drop the stone!!

For some reason, I didn't like when Mariuz slapped him on his back while trying to reload the 5th stone!

Just curious, how much do those stones weigh?

Ben Moore
09-16-2008, 11:25 AM
IIRC, in WSM they are 250, 275, 300, 330, 365 or something close to that.

The last stone was 400 I believe. Derek was a good sport and said the back slap was a heat of the battle thing. I would have been pissed. Although I guess Pudz must have been pissed that he was seen as sort of an underdog to Derek. Pudz was afterall a 4x champ for a reason. Derek will have his turn.

Gotta love Mariusz slapping him on the back. I take that as some very nice trash talking. I think it's awesome. He put Derek in his place. That's like the dance TO did on the Dallas Cowboy's Star at midfield, when he played for the Eagles. Difference is, Darren Woodsen took offense and lit TO up while he was doing it.

Derek is a great strongman, but he couldn't beat the best when it counted. He'll be back, no doubt. I think he'll take the WSM tilte in his career, barring injuries. He's very strong, athletic, cocky, and driven.

I'd be surprised - the WSM is known for being a bit lighter to make a better show.
