I've been sick for the past few days and I've been coughing up a lot of green/yellow phlegm and I'm considering self-medicating with anti-biotics. They were prescribed for an earlier infection and I didn't actually need them so I have a full bottle of amoxicillin. I need to be better by this weekend (I have a 40 hour course that begins with 3, 8 hour days this weekend that I need to be sharp for). But if it's not a sure sign of bacterial infection I don't want to do it. I just don't have the insurance, or the time to go see a doc and have him be like 'oh, green stuff, antibiotics right away'.

you would get prescribed and antibiotic i'm sure. Usually any bright color green/greenish color means bacteria somewhere.

don't take the old antibiotics

Every time you get a scrip for antibiotics, you need to take it all. If you don't, that bacteria can develop antibodies to that particular antibiotic, rendering it useless.

It is a full script. It's about 3 months old. What happened was I had issues with my lungs that may (and were probably not) have been bacterial and one script did nothing so I got a refill and never ended up taking them per doctor instructions.

Ok apparently older than I thought. The meds expired a few days ago. Oh well, there goes that plan.

I've had so many sinus infections and bronchitis, from birth even. The one thing I can say is don't let them get worse, but if you honestly think it's pretty minor and you can fight it without AB's, then try not to use them. AB's are really hard on the good bacteria of the stomach<

I am hacking up yellow stuff and on the way to the doctor in a few. I will post what she gives me in case you care. Probably just amoxiclian or whatever.

I do indeed. Went today, the doctor (I use the term loosely) gave me some crap pills claiming that they would work better than the mucinex and sudafed I was taking, despite having smaller amounts of active drug in them.
