I eat about 4 cans a day and I know some say that mercury could be an issue. I feel great and have been doing this for a couple weeks now. Should I be concerned? Anyone here ever have issues with over consumption of the chicken of the sea?

If you are really worried about it, you may consider switching half of your tuna to canned chicken. I generally eat 1-2 cans of that stuff per day. It's a good protein source and you don't have to worry about the heavy metals.

Thanks, keg. I'll buy a few tins this weekend and see how it tastes.

I quickly googled this. Sardines appear to have a slightly higher protein content than tuna but a significant higher amount of fat. I'd also wager that tuna is cheaper. I'd stick with tuna unless you are on a bulk or something.

I eat sardines all the time. Their less than $1 a can, whereas tuna is about $1.20...$1 if it's on sale.

If your hair turns white and your teeth fall out, you might have mercury poisoning.

4 cans per day isn't too bad. You'll get sick of it fast though.

I really like sardines piled on top of boiled new potatoes, with lemon zest, crushed fresh garlic and olive oil. Add in some red chili flakes. Darn good eats.
